Editorial Review
This is the diary ... of a spider.
But don't be worried – he's more scared of you and your gigantic shoe! Actually, he's a lot like you. He goes to gym class and has Grandparents' Day at school. But he also spins sticky webs, scales walls, and takes wind–catching lessons. Lucky for him, his best friend is a fly!
Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss, the team behind the #1 bestselling Diary Of A Worm, spin a hilarious tale about the upside–down web world of an eight–legged charmer and his unlikely friend, Fly.

Awesome Storytelling!

The story is being told by a spider as if he really were sharing his own life story. It makes it interesting! Soo MUCH that my daughters, ages 6 and 8, love reading it over and over. In fact, my daughters were the ones that begged me to purchase this book for them, and they also wanted the other ones, such as: Diary of a Worm, Diary of a Fly, etc. They learn as they read, because it's subtly educational!!

I was always afraid of spiders. However, as I was reading this book for my youngest sister (4 years old) she became fascinated with them. She wants to have a few spiders at home and treat them like pets!!! That is the surprising effect of authors' "humanizing" the spiders for the readers.
My 8 years old sister reads the book again and again for her younger sister and following the advice from Diary of a Spider they always check if there is no spider in their shoes before putting them on (they don't want to step on a spider and do any harm)
The book well written and beautifully illustrated. It is also educational (spiders are not insects - insects have six legs; spiders shed their skins) and teaches children such good values as friendship, compassion, love, etc. One of the most important statements I found by the end of the book: "... if we took the time to get to know each other we would get along just fine". I highly recommend this book to evry kid.
I have recently become fascinated with yet another diary. It's a diary of a cat, titled "Why Some Cats are Rascals". It is a series of fascinating stories with a lot of information from the world of cats, history, geography, etc. Also five stars. I liked the most the latest volume Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3)

Very clever book, good illustrations. My kids really enjoy hearing this book and I enjoy reading it. I get a chuckle out of a couple of particular diary entries every time I read it.

What do you follow a Diary of a Spider with? Why a diary of a worm of course. While not as fun as Diary of a Worm, this is still a fun read. Bug fans may also like The Bugville Critters Visit Dad and Mom at Work (Buster Bee's Adventures Series #1, The Bugville Critters).

I highly recommend this book to all loving and responsible mothers. I only wish the book to be less expensive. A paperback edition might be a good idea for mothers with tight budget.

Wonderful with an Unexpected Result

I bought "Diary of a Spider" thinking that Doreen Cronin's books are always a big hit with my daughter. After all, she just loves, "Click, Clack, Moo!" and the others of that series. I thought getting this series could introduce her to the world of insects and "icky" things.
Instead, I found something unexpected happened. My daughter was 5 when I first started reading "The Diary of a spider" to her, and sure enough, she loved this book became interested in the life of spiders. But that was not all. My daughter also began to express an interest in keeping her own sort of diary, even though she cannot yet write. She asked me to buy her a little journal, and she glued pictures and stickers from school and her Kindergarten class in it. She added some photos of our family; had me write the names of the people under the pictures for her. I do not think she would have come by starting this sort of scrapbooking or diary-making without having read "Diary of a Spider" and seeing the value of this activity. "Diary of a Spider" really helped her to see that every body's point of view is unique and special.
I am really delighted in this result and highly recommend this book for its value not only in garnering interest in entomology, but also for developing positive self-worth and interest in Diary making.

As cute as Diary of a Worm

In the same funny vein as Diary of a Worm, Diary of a Spider is chuckle-inducing fun for kids and adults who are kids at heart. Not much of a story line, per se, the book is just a peek into the "every day life" of a spunky little girl spider - a composition of humorous vignettes. The art is perfectly suited to this style of humor.
