Editorial Review

A box is just a box . . . unless it's not a box. From mountain to rocket ship, a small rabbit shows that a box will go as far as the imagination allows.

Inspired by a memory of sitting in a box on her driveway with her sister, Antoinette Portis captures the thrill when pretend feels so real that it actually becomes real—when the imagination takes over and inside a cardboard box, a child is transported to a world where anything is possible.

Quite a book 2008-03-03
This book thrilled my son who is almost 3. He totally got it. My 22 month old daughter loves the bunny so it was a win-win. The other book by Portis, Not A Stick, is not quite as good. Part of it is that after reading this one, the novelty wore off.

More Than A Book 2008-02-10
I teach elementary art and love this book. All grades (K-4) find it amusing and use it as a starting point for a 'not a box' project. They use their imaginations to turn ordinary boxes into wonderful, whimsical people, places and things. It is a light hearted lesson that stresses imagination and creativity.

Imagination unleashed 2008-01-23
I absolutely loved this book. The illustrations are simple and highly effect for using with children to show them what part is real and what part is imagined. The cardboard surface on the cover was a fabulous touch. This is one of my all-time favorites.

CREATIVE-LY awesome 2008-01-16
I LOVE this book!!! I would say it is best for ages 3 or 4 and under, but it is SO CUTE.

Great Book 2007-11-27
Books and especially children books should spark a child's creativity, make them want to read, to write, to create and I feel this book can and will do that. It's not sparkle, it's not flash. It's not a Saturday morning cartoon. it's a book, and a good one.

If you want your kid(s) to engage, buy this book! 2008-06-04
It's hard to add anything else to these reviews, but let me just say that my daughter absolutely loved this book and reads it over and over and over again. She loves shouting, "It's not a box!" and calling out what it really is.

Passes the kid test 2008-05-21
I bought four books for my four granddaughters, and reports are that this one is their favorite, even though the others are fine and one is a major prizewinner.
These are little girls aged 3-4 years. I think that a good kid-rating is worth a lot, so wanted to pass it on!

Best book! 2008-05-18
This is a fantastic book. My son loves it when we make sound effects and wants to read it over and over. I'm hoping it'll help teach him to play pretend. A must have.

preschool teacher 2008-05-06
I loved this book. I read it to four and five year-olds. Then let them play with a big box from a dishwasher. They play with that box all the time. A great way to jump start the imagination.

Amazing book 2008-04-11
This is one of the funniest children's books I have ever seen. If you like Mo Willems' "Don't let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus" you will most likely love this book!
