Editorial Review
A dab of blue here, a splash of red there, a goopy smear of green . . . everywhere. To the tune of "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More," one creative kid floods his world with color, painting first the walls, then the ceiling, then HIMSELF! Before this feisty artist is through, he'll have painted his head, back, hands, legs, feet, and . . . Oh no--here comes Mama!
Karen Beaumont's zippy text and David Catrow's zany illustrations turn an infamous childhood activity into raucous storytime fun, giving a silly twist to the fine art of self-expression.

Got to have it!!

One of the best books i have bought for my P-K class. Reading it and then following up with a painting activity is great to see the kids express them selfs and how they interpreted the book. They even painted themselves just like in the book. Great and fun book to add to your curriculum.
Very Entertaining!

My daughter loves this book. She walks around singing "ain't gonna paint no more." She spends a lot of time looking at the pictures in this book, more so than with other books we read. It is a book that is entertaining for both of us. Great pictures, cute story, not too long and not too short.
This book may confuse young children
2007-10-06
I picked this book up at the libray where I work. I am looking for books to read to my neighbors 4 grandchildren who are at risk. I am looking for positive messages and enjoyable art. I am glad I read this book before I took it to them. These children are all 6 and under and the problem behaviors they have include destructive behavior to property including breaking glass decorations, drawing scratching on the walls/floors/tables, fighting (I mean to the point where one of then knocked another out with a brick!), lying, running around with no clothes on, and a potential to be abusive to animals. So anyway, I read through this book and it starts off with the child having already painted the house and his mother taking his paints away, then he piles up furniture and climbs on them an gets the paints down, then paints himself, and apparently the dog because it becomes covered in paint, then he takes his underwear off and is running around naked, preparing to paint his butt when his mother finds him, putting both he and the dog in the tub.
So although this book might be suitable for some children, it would not be for the ones I had hoped to check it out for. They are being helped to overcome major behavioral problems and many of the problems are being shown in this book as fun. This book could seriously confuse them. So please read it first and think about the individual child, or children, that you plan to share it with. I certainly would not read it to a storytime group, or classroom, of children that I did not know VERY well. Also, some parents (and some children) may find the illustration of the child's naked backside offensive or disturbing.
Our Favorite Kids Book!

I'm a collector of children's book, mother of three (two boys & girl -- 3, 4, 6), former teacher...and this book is at the very top of our list! I've taken it to every class where I've been the mystery reader, it stays by my boys' bed, and I bet we've read it a zillion times (and we'll it a zillion more. Definitely worth owning!
Love to sing
2007-09-25
The first time that I heard of this book is when my son and I went to story time at BN. The story teller sang the words instead of reading it. Everyone really enjoyed it, and my son gets excited every time he hears her start singing. I decided that I had to get the book because of the singing and the wonderful colors. Each time the boy paints a body part, I have my 22 month old son show me his hands, chest, legs, etc. He loves to read (or sing) the story. I did read some readers comments about the negative aspect of the boy disobeying his mother. Well, I take the opportunity to point out that the little boy is being bad and that he needs to listen to his mommy. It's a little over the head for my son at this time, but if I keep it up, he'll get the message. And at some readers dismay, "ain't" is part of the English language, and it ain't going anywhere.
Too clever for words!

This books is brilliant. If you have a child who doesn't like reading, try this book. It has great rhyming, fantastic pictures and is very cheeky. I can't get enough of it and keep reading it myself. My daughter is a big fan too! A must for any home book collection!I Ain't Gonna Paint No More! (Ala Notable Children's Books. Younger Readers (Awards))
Sing & "Paint" Along
2008-05-06
My son and I were introduced to this book in his music class. The teacher gave all the kids dry paint brushes while she read (sang) the book to them. As the little boy in the story paints each body part a new and interesting color, the children in class are encouraged to "paint" along. What a great way to teach kids about colors and body parts. Oh what the heck, I guess I'll paint my neck! Enjoy
One of the best children's books Ever!

This is such a cute book. I read it to my second grade art students and they loved it! The rhyming is very fun and they enjoyed using the rhyme to guess what would happen next in the story. This is one of the most adorable children's books I've ever seen.
Simply Wonderful!

I absolutely love this book! The illustrations and colors are just fantastic. This is by far one of the greatest children's books I have come across.
That being said, I am a little surprised by the negative comments regarding this book. First of all, everyone knows that the phrase "I ain't gonna paint no more" is not proper english. It's just an expression... lighten up.
Second of all, maybe the child in the book is "unruly." The story, and the title for that matter, isn't meant to be taken literally. Most books, TV shows, and movies aren't meant to be taken literally either. If you have several kids under the age of 6 who hit each other with bricks and abuse animals, then you've got far more serious things to worry about besides criticizing a children's book.
Fun for the whole family

This book is one of the funniest childrens books I have read in a long time. My daughter loves the sing song way the book flows and she laughs everytime we read it. I have recommended this book to others and they have purchased it because their kids love it!!
