Editorial Review
The captain of this brave and bumbling pirate crew has ordered them to capture the entire alphabet--and they'll walk the plank if they're missing a single letter! Now these swashbuckling mateys are embarking on an alphabet adventure unlike any other, and they won't (ahem, can't) rest until they've found an A, a Z, and everything in between.

June Sobel's hilarious text and Henry Cole's adventurous animal pirates harmonize in an irresistible book for alphabet-learning, pirate-loving kids everywhere.

"R" get this book, your child will enjoy it 2008-10-07
My preschooler enjoys picking out the letters in this book, all the while acting like a pirate. This is our 2nd best alphabet book, second only to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

More than just "R" 2008-09-25
I love pirates. I love a good alphabet book. This story offers both as a bunch of adorable pirates search after letters as "R" is apparently getting a little old.

The rhyming beat is clever and fun and provides plenty of clues to get one looking for half-hidden letters in the illustrations.

My students could hardly sit on the floor for wanting to crow around me to search for letters.

Adorable and wonderfully illustrated.

A fun book for small boys and girls 2008-08-13
Boys and girls from 3 to 8 will love this book. A fun way to learn.

Fun but it could be better. 2008-05-28
I didn't care for this book as much as I liked "Pirate Alphabet." The rhymes are cute in this book, but it didn't seem to really focus on the alphabet as much as the aforementioned book did. This book is about a crew of animal pirates who lose their letters at sea and must find them. The author did not use that many "piratey" words to accompany the letters of the alphabet. I read this book to my son twice to give it a chance, but it failed in comparison. I ultimately gave it away.

learning made fun, for a four year old 2008-05-14
This is a wonderful story of a pirate that is in search of all the letters in the alpabet. My grandson delighted in identifying the letters the pirate crew found and searched the page for more letters for them to "catch"....easy source for sharing and learning

There's More To The Pirate Alphabet Than ARRR! 2008-03-26
Shiver Me Letters plays off a very cute (and wonderully geeky) joke, the pirate's fixation on the letter "R", as in "ARRRRR!". The pirate captain has decided that his crew needs to expand their horizons beyond just "R". So they lower their anchor ("A"!) at a desert island and set off seeking a buried treasure of letters.

And yes, "X" does indeed mark the spot.

Told in rhyming couplets by June Sobel, this story will have youngsters reading along as they follow the adventures of the pirate crew through the letters of the alphabet. Henry Cole has illustrated the pirates as cute cartoon animals, including a crocodile captain who wears a rubber-ducky floatation device (it even has an eyepatch!).

The illustrations are humorous and colorful, and the text is plain fun as it bounces from one location to the next, covering all of the classic pirate motifs while it moves through the alphabet. To make things even more fun, the letters of the alphabet are hidden in the illustrations, giving a nice treat for visual and artistic learners.

The ending is adorable too.

Alphabet books are great learning tools for young children, and this one has the added advantage of telling an amusing story.

not just an alphabet book 2008-03-03
I really liked this story. My son, who doesn't really love books, asks me to read it again and again.
I enjoyed that it is an actual story and learning the alphabet is a side issue. So many alphabet books just plod through all the letters. In this story, a band of pirates set out to find the letters. It whips through the whole alphabet so nicely that you don't even notice that it is whole point of the book. Each letter is also "hidden" on the page.
A fun book, where you could briefly go over the whole alphabet every night for quite a while before it gets too old.

A new favorite 2008-01-27
Shriver Me Letters has become a new favorite book for my 3 yearold grandson. He loves to find hidden objects in books and that is exctly what the kids do while reading this book. The pirate theme is also perfect at this time and the illustrations are very colorful and fun. We are very happy with our purchase and feel the price was within the normal range for a child's hardback book.

Fun 2007-12-20
My 2 year old really enjoys this as he's learing his letters and playing "I spy". Mom and Dad enjoy it too.
