The Best Book On My Shelf
2007-12-06
I have hundreds of books on drawing and dozens about how to draw the human figure. By far this is the best book I have on my shelves. As a live model teacher, I always recommend Force to my students who want to pursue carreers as illustrators, animators or to those who simply want to study the figure. The book is easy to follow and the concepts taught really change your vision about the human figure. Please note: this is not a book about how to finish your drawings, it is about how you should begin them. And, as the title of the book says, how to imput Force on your figures. If you really study this book, really following it and making the exercises, I'm sure, no matter how skilled you are, your drawing skills will improve a lot. This book is a must, alongwith any Bridgeman's book and Henry Yan's Figure Drawing. I highly recommend it both to begginers and experienced artists. I'd give six stars if I could.
Best Figure Drawing Book EVER!!!!
2007-11-06
I wanted to express my excitement for this book, this is the holy bible of figure drawing in my opinion, or for anyone who creates art for fun or for a living. I was inspired to write a review on this book, as I'm reading it for the third time.
There are so many horrible art books out there, such as the type that don't feed you ideas, inspiration, and build passion. This book does just that! FORCE is well written and it doesn't have that dated feeling that most art books have. The style described in this book is very applicable to cutting edge comics, cartoons, and design in general.
You get the sense that the author understands mental blocks and the visual comprehension that artists need to understand something. The book is full of visual examples that mesh together with the text seamlessly. Many art books are dribble and the correlation between text and visuals is a mess. You also wont find any filler information to add weight to the book, every page is full of worthy information that needs to be understood.
In essence FORCE will give you mental awareness of your subject and clarification to decisions you make when using your pencil. If you ever have found yourself wondering why your drawings aren't interesting enough or more importantly you can't break into the next level of your talents, this book will do that as well.
Force Dynamic Life Drawings for Anomators
2007-09-12
This book is a very practical source for animators to bring life and drama into their work. Excellent renderings and examples for developing each concept presented in the chapters. The book is intended to be used in sequence in order to build from one concept to the next. Easy read and approach for students that already have some background in drawing.
Helpful, but needs more...

As a comics creator, I applaud how this book reminds me about injecting more dynamism into the forms I draw, whether they be human, animal, or environmental. I would have given this book five stars if the author had included final art versions of the framework drawings. Or, to take finished illustrations and make some kind of commentary or diagram overlay. As the book stands now, it needs more interesting content given the cover price.

Although I have not read through the whole book, it has some great info and has renewed my interest in drawing the human form.
The best I have found

I just finished reading this book the first time through, and it's great. All of the other reviews are spot on. It does help to have some knowledge of anatomy, but if you don't, you can still learn from this book, and it will make learning anatomy more fun. It has lots of great full page drawings too. I've noticed improvements in my skills, and look forward to going through it again in the future.

I bought this book for Xmas for my son's girlfriend. Both my son and his girlfriend are Animation students at San Jose State University. They have to draw constantly. I mean CONSTANTLY. She said that this is a terrific book. This is coming from an Animation student and you cannot get better feedback than that. Highly recommend this book.
Really great book

This book has helped my figure drawing a lot in terms of capturing energy and the essence of the model's actions. The best book on figure draw I've read so far; also very helpful for animators.
