Amazing - Muffins, Cheesecake to die for! everything
2009-04-19
I think this goldmine of a cookbook! I am allergic to eggs -- I tried other cookbooks and nothing even comes close to this one. I never knew about this book until I shared with my doctor that none of the cookbooks I tried had great cakes then, my doctor asked me if I tried Bakin' Withou Eggs. I went out and puchased it and started baking immediately. Then, Wow amazing results! No one could tell the difference with these recipes. We had cheesecake for Christmas, no one knew the difference. We had chocolate chip cookies, we had good morning muffins, we had annisette cookies that tasted just like my grandmother's. I made the brownies and everyone devoured them. We had so many recipes and the Bismark cake was really delicious. The pancakes were better than any of the mixes that I tried in the store. We made the waffles and they were also amazing. The apple cakes are totally amazing and the chocolate cakes are delicious. So, I would also pay $50 for this book. It is the best cookbook by far that I could never imagine that baking without an egg could taste just like ours before my new allergy to eggs that was hard news to deal with. But, the doctor recommended this book and I am forever grateful to him for refferring it to me. My relatives also went out and bought it just because of all the packed great recipes in there.
An excellent book

I am so impressed with this book. There are no pictures but the recipes have wonderful names and they have all worked!! My frustration at finding the odd egg free cake recipe in an allergy free book that gives a 2 or 3 out of 5 product is over. I have tried four recipes from this book and all have risen, had great texture and amazing flavour. Also each recipe has a suggested icing or topping which works well with the cake. Thank you so much!
Great cheesecake!

I've tried several recipes, and all have been great so far. The cheesecake recipe is phenomenal and I can't tell there aren't any eggs. Some of the recipes could use a little tweaking and I'd like to see a little more explanation about what replaces eggs in each particular recipe so I could apply this to other recipes.
a family favorite

I love to bake, but I married an egg-allergic man. About seven years ago, early in our relationship, it frustrated me that egg-free recipes were few and far between. When I found this book, everything changed. He had a birthday cake for the first time in his life because of me (and this book). He had pumpkin pie for the first time in his life because of me (and this book). And at the holidays, my neice (who is luckily not food allergic) specially requests the egg-free sugar cookies I make from this book. Every recipe is delicious and you'd never know it was missing anything.
Three cheers for the Emros! I will never let this book go!
This book is a lifesaver!

Finally, delicious recipes for cookies, cakes, and other baked goods that use no eggs!
Millions of people-- including 5 percent of all American children-- have a food allergy, and eggs are one of the most common culprits. In this easy-to-use collection of recipes, Rosemarie Emro presents more than one hundred crowd-pleasing desserts and other treats that contain no eggs. These are delicious cakes, cookies, breads, muffins, brownies, bars, pies, and cobblers with all the flavor, texture, and delights egg-allergic families have been longing for. Everyone who wants to avoid eggs can now rediscover the joys of baking.
A MUST-BUY for anyone who is allergic to eggs!!!!

I can absolutely not say enough good things about this book! My 3 yr old daughter is allergic to eggs, milk, potatoes, bananas, and peanuts. I can't use the typical "egg substitute" that you buy at the store because it contains potato starch. And other egg substitutes often don't work with baked goods. However, this book uses regular ingredients that you can buy at most grocery stores.(I substitute soy-based products where dairy is present, i.e. milk, butter, yogurt.) But the kicker is--they taste pretty much the same as regular. In fact, for a couple of these recipes (the chocolate chip & the sugar cookies), my husband increduously asked me if these were safe for our daughter! :) I have made chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, white cake, ginger cookies, and pumpkin bars. Every one of them tasted SO MUCH better than everything else I've tried. I've never had an allergy cookbook that I could find more than one or two recipes that worked right and tasted good (and that was after trying dozens). So far in this cookbook, I'm 5 for 5! If you have a egg-allergic child, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book.

My grandson is very allergic to eggs and after looking at a lot of books about allergies we found this one. My daughter and I love this book and use it all the time. My grandson's sweet tooth is complete thanks to this book.

My sister-in-law, who was recently diagnosed with an egg allergy, found this book very helpful!
Great cookbook for those with egg or nut allergies

My 3 year old son is allergic to eggs as well as peanuts and tree nuts. Although I have found some recipes I like, and most importantly he likes, I struggled to find cake recipes that tasted great, were moist, and didn't sink. My cake frustration ended when I tried some recipes from this cookbook. I made the Silver White Cake with buttercream icing for his recent 3rd birthday party and everyone loved it. It looked great and tasted great. Also, many of the recipes in this book give you the option for adding or not including nuts. I've made a few of the cookie recipes and they've all turned out well too.
