Editorial Review
Med School Confidential uses the same chronological format and mentor-based system that have made Law School Confidential and Business School Confidential such treasured and popular guides. It takes the reader step-by-step through the entire med school process--from thinking about, applying to, and choosing a medical school and program, through the four-year curriculum, internships, residencies, and fellowships, to choosing a speciality and finding the perfect job.
With a foreword by Chair of the Admissions Committee at Dartmouth Medical School Harold M. Friedman, M.D., Med School Confidential provides what no other book currently does: a comprehensive, chronological account of the full medical school experience.

Much better books available 2008-12-01
This book tries to do too much.. You're better off getting a great basic science gem like "How to study in medical school" to help you conquer the basic sciences, and teaming that up with "Iserson's guide to getting into residency" to help with your 3rd/4th year of med school.

And plus it really makes you wonder when the lead author is the same author as "Law school confidential" and "Business school confidential". Most of the information presented is vague and not always applicable. Stick with books written by MD's, such as "How to study in Medical School" or "How to excel in Medical School".

Interesting read 2008-11-17
I appreciate that this book really breaks the medical school process down into its parts, and gives you some good insight. However, I think it lacked some detail. It is a good place to start for learning the basics of what going through medical school will be like, but I think it could have used a little bit more depth.

Gift that went well 2008-07-31
Bought this for my girlfriend who is going to MedSchool. She seems happy as a pup with two tails about this book. I don't know how, Med students creative writing skills are worst that a sloth, but I don't think they care much for creative so much as they look for factual data.

Perfect book for aspiring med students! 2008-07-19
This book contains everything technical I needed to know to apply for medical schools. It gives you all the step by step guides. It also gives you detailed, necessary information according to how early or late you may be in the preparation process. This book was a great purchase! I absolutely recommend it.

Great Book 2008-06-23
I didn't have any contact with medicine before college and was in desperate need for good information. This is a great resource.

Please believe me when I tell you that you really don't want to go to medical school 2008-04-07
The problem with this book and those similar to it is that these books reinforce the idea of how wonderful it will be to become a physician. Here is all you need to know: After four years of grinding out top grades in classes like organic chemistry, you can look forward to another four years of no sleep, no social life, being humiliated and terrified by residents and attendings, and running up 100,000 to 200,000 dollars of debt, and then another 3 to 7 years of residency....all this to live in fear of being sued by a four-pack-per-day-smoker who will blame you for his myocardial infarction. Or better yet, be constantly second guessed by every high school drop out with an internet connection who someohow knows more than you and your expensive high-powered medical training because they "looked it up on the web". Do I have another 4 or 5 hours to tell you about managed care? Take it from a doctor who is living his "dream"...run, run away to something less stressful and more fulfilling than present day medicine...you know, like juggling chain saws.

Awesome book 2008-03-21
This book talks about the well rounded medical experience. There is something for everyone. It touches on the admission process and preparing for the MCAT. More importantly Med School Confidential talks about how to survive medical school and the study materials you need for boards. It gives some insight on what to expect from your pre-clinical and clinical years. Throughout the book, a panel of doctors talk about their experiences. It also includes a section about what significant others can expect as a supporter of a medical student. This book helps solidify your decision of becoming a doctor and elaborates on steps to plan a successful career. I haven't finished reading it as of yet, but I humbly endorse this book.

Makes a very complex subject easy to understand 2008-01-19
Med School confidential did a great job in answering all of my questions. I've been focused on preparing for medical for awhile but it seems so hard to get accurate and detailed information. Well, to say the least, this book explained everything I need to know.
The book is very easy to read and actually kept me intrigued because it was short, sweet, and to the point (but never compromised valuable information). Med School Confidential covers everything from Pre-Med to Residency, as well as D.O. vs. M.D.

A Straightforward, Readable Prescription for the Prospective Med Student 2007-08-23
I purchased this book in the hopes that it would give me some guidance as to whether or not to further pursue the idea of med school and possibly a career in medicine. I was not disappointed, although the the book is not necessarily primarily dedicated to people trying to make that decision.

This text is definitely aimed more at the prospective med student; it suffices to say that the book considers in the early chapters whether one might be suited to a career in medicine, but in large part it discusses strategies for getting into med school and surviving the process through residency, including information for spouses/sig-others of prospective med students. The fact that the book includes a lot of information from recent med school graduates bolsters its credibility in my view, and gives a more authoritative perspective overall.

What leads me to award such a high rating however, is the compelling nature of the writing, which is informative and succinct. The authors convey a great deal of information without belaboring, and proffer practical advice without waxing condescendingly philosophical.

While I read this hoping to get more of a "pulse" (pardon the expression) on the med school decision making process (should I/shouldn't I), I found that the lowdown and descriptiveness of med school itself should arm me with information to make that call. I'd highly recommend this book not only for the prospective med student, but also for matriculated students who may be wondering what exactly to expect and how to plan their studies.
