If only more parents knew this information.....

Great book. Great resource for parents who desire alternative options to the regular standard of care in the US today which focuses on covering up symptoms instead of dealing with causes.
You don't have to run to the Dr.

I raised three very healthy kids with this book and now I've purchased one for my daughter to use for my new grandson. It just proves you don't have to run to the Dr. with every sneeze!
Very Enlightening Book!

I really enjoyed this book. It provides some great insight into the world of the doctor/patient relationship. The information easily applies to today despite the fact that it was written about 20 years ago! This is a very biased, blunt book that goes straight at the jugular of modern medicine with logic being the driving force. This book solidified what I already felt...stay away from doctors unless you have a medical emergency! The book outlines some reasons to seek medical attention, when to avoid it and presents a great argument against vaccinations. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs encouraged on their path against the grain or for anyone teetering on the fence!
MENDELSOHN IS A MAVERICK, BUT DEAD ON CORRECT
2007-09-29
Some of the most critical life-affecting decisions regarding your child occur while pregnant and during the first moments, months, and years of their lives--nutrition, breast feeding, vaccinations, etc. Too many parents blindly defer to their ObGyns & pediatricians, and are not truly informed about the choices they make. You can get the same tired establishment line about how thimerosal (mercury preservative in vaccines) doesn't cause Autism in children. But, why even inject one of the most toxic substances known to man into our children the first place?
Sure Mendelsohn is a maverick, but you owe it to yourself to know all sides of the issues regarding your children's health.
My wife's ObGyn lives a block away from us. I am a medical researcher. She dismissed my concerns and questions when my wife was pregnant, and adopted the "I'm the pro here and do what I tell you" attitude. We ignored her advice, and designed an nutritional and supplementation schedule based on scientific research.
Our baby was full-term and rated a perfect 10 on the Apgar rating at birth. Her child, born two months after ours, was born weeks premature, underweight, and very, very ill.
An M.D. isn't a license in omnipotence. You owe it to your baby to read this book to get "the other point of view."
A bit outdated.

I think the book was probibly great in 1984 when it was published. I was a bit disappointed about how outdated it was;it suggested giving a teaspoon of Whiskey for fever to an infant. I wish that the publication date was available to view before purchasing the book and if it was, to make it easier to find.
Times sure have changed in the last 23 years. The concepts are good but I think Dr. Mendelsohn needs to update the book and re-release it.
Read this book 20 years ago

My daughter is now 20 years old. I read this book while pregnant and found it very helpful. My refused immunizations, the eye drops, the Vit K shot and the anal temperatures. When she was teething I rubbed whiskey on her gums. When she got pneumonia I gave her carrot juice instead of antibiotics. She never got baby food out of a jar - I made it myself from organic fruits and veggies. When I was done breast feeding she got soy milk - no powdered formulas.
Today her immune system is so strong she rarely gets sick and when she does she is over it quickly. She had a very mild case of chicken pox when she was around 8 years old - nothing that required even a doctors visit - it was like she had a cold.
I am writing this review now because a friend of mind is pregnant and when I told her I chose not to get my child vaccinated she thought I was a lunatic. Then she did the research and she has decided that maybe I was right. I was so happy to hear of her decision that I had to look up this book and reccommend it to her. I wish everyone who is going to have a baby would just consider that possibility that their pediatrician may not be right about certain things and take the time to find out for themselves!
Some info not up to date

Overall the book was very informative and calss parents to rely on common sense and natural remedies to care for your child rather than pump them full of drugs to cure them. I'm not so sure the vaccination portion of the book is recent enough to rely on.
Timeless.....

Dr. Mendelsohn, an articulate common sense approach for healthy baby and childhood. His advice is timeless, his experience priceless. The book removes fear, instead the pages are embedded with reassurance to follow one's heart while making crucial decisions for your precious little people. Love you, Dr. Mendelsohn!

The best advice and information

The best Pediatric advice you would ever need!
I only wish I would have had this book before I had my baby boy; He almost died from the overvaccination and the mercury in them, twice!! He still has many health problems related to that.
I always buy it as a gift for all the new mothers that I know (or as a baby shower gift).
Dr. Mendelsohn is one real doctor who honors medical ethics. Hopefully, many young doctors will buy his books and learn something from this brave dr. who has the guts to speak with the truth!
