Going to College? 2008-03-30
This book is priceless. It gives excellent information on so many of the country's colleges. It helped my daughter when she was looking at colleges and now my son is using the book, too, as he prepares a list of colleges to apply to next fall.

Your search for a top college starts here 2008-02-17
The Princeton Review guide is not the last word in college guides, but it probably should be the first word for those seeking a top college for their strong student. If you are new to the college search process, this guide allows you to quickly winnow your search to a group of schools that would be a good fit for your child, at least on paper. The strength of the Princeton Review guide is the numbers. Detailed statistical profiles of the student body and of the recently admitted freshman class allows potential applicants to quickly see how they stack up against their competition for a spot at that school. If you want to go Ivy League, the guide will quickly let you know if you're being realistic or not. By the same token, maybe the numbers tell you that you have a real chance at getting into some schools you previously thought were out of reach.

The narratives included for each school are not the best part of the book. They provide good overview info for a first-look at a school, but you start to wonder how insightful they really are when you read the 25th review that says "the students at [fill in the blank] college work hard, but play hard too." To me, the narratives are too brief and anecdotal to be really useful. As you narrow your search from 2200 schools to 300 schools to 20 or 25, you'll want to augment your library with something like Fiske Guide to Colleges 2008 (Fiske Guide to Colleges), which I think makes an excellent companion to the Princeton Review guide. It's a little less numbers-intensive and provides narratives that, in my view, give a better feel for the learning and living environments at these colleges.

All-in-all, the Princeton Review guide is a must-have for families looking at top schools, but not the whole story.

Excellent Resource 2008-01-13
This is an excellent resource for both parents and students who are researching colleges. One piece of information it uniquely provides is the range of SAT and ACT scores for incoming freshmen.

BEST COLLEGE BOOK---HANDS DOWN!!! 2007-12-18
I'm a college counselor and this is THE book I recommend to the large majority of my studnets. The descriptions of schools are SPOT ON in most cases and it's written by students so it doesn't have the problem of other guide books of trying to pigeon-hole every school as a nerd school or party school. It might not be helpful for kids who aren't as academically sound, but for those who are it's the only book you need!

Amazing 2007-12-15
This book is great for anyone looking at different colleges. This book rates the colleges on dorms, campus security, and is filled with details. Male/Female ratio, the size of the classrooms, and even quotes from students that have attended these schools. These schools range from all over the US.

If you can't visit, and only if so. 2008-05-29
This book should not decide where you go to college. It has some interesting info on each school, along with a lot of really cool surveys. However, it is very uncomprehensive and, of course, can't do anything even close to capturing that schools feel and color completely on paper.
If you're interested on looking up some college after hearing its name or something similar for some initial info on a college, this is a good choice.

The best guide hands down 2008-05-15
I'm currently a junior in high school and this guide has been a godsend.

This book breaks down the best ranked colleges for you- tells you which schools are the party schools, which ones are full of geniuses, etc.

They score the Selectivity, Campus Life, Academics, Financial Aid,etcetera on a scale of 60-99

There's also quotes from students who attend the school about what it's like. It's a lot of information they crammed in to each college profile and right together, much more convenient than having to keep a million web browsers up to compare colleges.

If you're looking at colleges, this guide is essential!

Very thouough and useful. I recommend it strongly for any household with high school juniors that are interested in learning a great deal about their potential college options.

A Great Resource! 2008-05-08
This is one of the best college resources I've found. By the time you finish reading the 2-page layout for each college, you really have a pretty good idea what each college is like. Particularly valuable to me were the "Quality of Life" rankings, the comments by the students themselves, the Academic Ratings, the Student/Faculty Ratios, The Average Class Size, The Admissions Rating, the % of Applicants Accepted, the Recommended SAT Scores, and the Financial Aid Ratings. I also found the section "Schools Ranked by Category" very useful which covers pretty much everything from "Their Students Never Stop Studying" to "Party Schools" with everything in between.
Highly Recommended!

College Minded in VA 2008-04-07
I found this college guide to be well organized and it offers a great snapshot of the college. I also like that you get the student prospective.
I would highly recommend.
