this is not a book for all ages... i would say 13 or older... it has some STUFF in it... yeah
Aly is the kind of friend you always want in your corner.

I adore the character of Aly in Trickster's Queen and Trickster's Choice. She's strong and capable and driven - but has such a sense of humour and a delightfully laid-back view on life. Too many heroines in fantasy novels are one-note, but Aly is a symphony. She knows who she is, and is confident in her abilities, which makes other confident as well. The story is exciting, romantic and has a important message, yet Ms. Pierce doesn't beat you over the head with it. This book is perfect for fantasy lovers of all ages.
Convenient but good

I have to agree with other reviewers that this second book was very "convenient." But at the same time, I really enjoyed it. I didn't predict Dove's role at all, so that was cool for me. Then again, I haven't read any other Tamora Pierce books, so maybe she pulls that switcheroo a lot.
Anyway, same great characters. Cool little darkings (or whatever they were called. They were my favorites besides Ali). More plotting and spying. A surprising death. And a happy ending.
I don't care how convenient it was, it was a great book. I'm just sad there aren't more Ali adventures.
Charmingly predictable...

... and I mean that in a good way. Ms. Pierce seemingly pulls characters from 20th century fantasy central casting and does a great job building a compelling page turner. This is light fare when so many authors seem to be driven to "go dark" to the point of being just plain depressing.
great book

My daughter (15 years) loves everything written by Tamora Pierce. Great author!
