Editorial Review
At 11-years-old, Malao is the youngest of the Five Ancestors. Master of the monkey fighting style, he’s curious and quick, fast and fun-loving. But now, with the destruction of the temple and the deaths of his older brothers and Grandmaster, Malao the fun-loving monkey is forced to face things he’d rather not. As he grapples with these new and unwelcome feelings, Malao has an encounter with a dangerous band of bandits, is adopted by a troop of monkeys commanded by a one-eyed albino, and hears tantalizing rumors of a mysterious recluse called the Monkey King, who is said to act, and look, a lot like him. . . .

5 ancestors series 2008-07-14
These books are great fun. the move very fast with great action.
I have read all of them and do not know how many books the series will have and i do not like this! The web site does not have it and the books read very fast so now I am waiting for Mouse but starting to tire of this.

Reluctant reader 2008-01-22
I'm a librarian and I started purchasing this series for my grandson about 3 years ago. Everytime I asked him, he hadn't read them yet. I was sure if he started them, he would like them. This fall he had to have a book to read in school that represented his interests so he took the first one, reluctantly (hates to read). He was about halfway through the book when he called me and said,"Grammy, would you mind getting me the rest of the Five Ancestors books? They're awesome!" He's now reading the second one and looking forward to the rest of the series. He's 11, turning 12 in May. I would reccomend this series any time for boys who think they don't like to read.

Five young, orphaned monks specializes in a different style of kung-fu reflecting his personality 2006-03-13
Book 2 of Jeff Stone's 'Five Ancestors' series, Monkey really deserves a reading of Book 1 for a smooth transition - and be aware, this is a projected seven-book series - but the action- packed martial-arts story set in 17th century China will win fans wherever they begin. Five young, orphaned monks specializes in a different style of kung-fu reflecting his personality: here Malao faces his temple's destruction and an encounter with a band of wood monkeys who save him and introduce him to a wilder side of his soul.

Monkey ( 5 Ancestors) 2006-03-12
I think the book was better than hope for. You need to read the frist book first than you will get the story.

Monkey 2006-03-01
The Five Ancestors series by Jeff Stone is an exciting series about five young monks from an ancient Chinese temple called Canghzen, or, literally, Hidden Temple. The books are the same story, but from different views, because they split up. I think these books are a great adventure, and I also liked Tiger.

My son LOVED this book!! 2006-02-28

Five Ancestors Monkey 2006-02-25
Monkey is a book for the wittiest minds.
This book is the second book in the mind racing series called the Five Ancestors. To read these books, you have to think about every little thing. It makes the book the hardest to put down. This book is going to become super popular. You better read this awesome brain thriller.

This story is about five monks and their temple that gets destroyed by a so called traitor monk. The young monks fled the temple and went their different ways. But four of them meet up again to fight the so called evil one. In the book the monks are also looking for a relative because they're orphans. This book is filled with action, mystery and more. At the start you might think it's only action but if you do, you are wrong.

This series is written by Jeff Stone a good writer. One thing that is different about his series is that in each book, the same thing happens but in a different character's mind but still different. Another thing is in each book it switches from the main character to the so called traitor and his men. It makes you think even more.

I hope your brain is up for the challenge to read this book and series. By the way, the first book is called Tiger.

Happy Reading!

Monkey by Jeff Stone 2006-02-10
The story takes place in Asia, probably China, but I am not sure. The characters are Malao, Fu, and She. Malao means "Monkey" in Cantonese Chinese.
In the beginning, Malao is running away from Cangzhen because Ying, Malao's brother destroyed Cangzhen. Malao is a master of Monkey Kung Fu, although he is only 11 years old.
Grandmaster is a dragon style master. He is on the team with She, Malao, Fu, Hok and Long. Ying killed Grandmaster as grandmaster killed Ying's dad. Ying=eagle, Hok=crane, Fu=tiger, Malao=monkey, She=snake, and Long=dragon. In the story Ying kills Grandmaster. Malao battles a bandit, named Hung=bear. Malao beats him and gets a firestone and a metal bar. Malao and Fu try to go to Shaolin temple.
Tsung delays them. He is secretly working for Ying. Tsung grabs the dragon scrolls. The dragon scrolls teach someone to become a Master dragon.
Ying wants one because he wants to be a dragon master. Shaolin unfortunately got destroyed. Ying nearly gets killed by Tsung. Tonglong is probably an ally of Malao's team.
She creeps up and takes Malao away. Malao sees Tonglong wink...
I definitely will recommend this book to other people. It is action-packed! People who love action and adventure will certainly love this book! IT'S GREAT!
I.T.

Awesome book 2006-01-18
I really liked this book. It was a fun, easy read that kept me engaged. It was not only about kung-fu. After reading the first book in the series, Tiger, I hoped that Monkey would retell the story and it did not. I recommend that you read the books in order because it may be confusing if you don't.

It's amazing! 2006-01-08
I found it a thrilling experience to read this book. His writing technique was perfect. I loved how he wove excitement and suspense together. It had an excellent ending and I can't wait to read the next one. Jeff Stone, great job!
Other books I recommend are the Deltora Quest series, Wandering Warrior, Bluefingers (A Ninja's Tale), and The Guardians of Gahoole. I am 10 1/2 years old.
