Four fluffy feathers on a Fiffer-feffer-feff 2007-04-11
Another excelent book by Dr. Seuus.
This book goes through each letter of the alphabet using real and made up words.
The book works towards letter recognition and phonics

Dr Seuss's ABC 2006-06-13
Dr Seuss's rhymes and periodic nonsense words will help young readers learn the alphabet and make it fun! Each letter of the alphabet, except X (which is used in the middle and at the end of words), are used at the beginning of words, making fun tongue-twisters that will always make kids giggle during the reading of this book. And what's better than fun learning?!?

Great Book 2005-09-16
....but, of course, it is Dr. Suess. My two year old demands this book nearly every day and quotes from it liberally.

Dr. Suess was a genius! 2005-06-09
My son is 27 months old with a severe speech delay and without any true words. I don't know what it is about this book but he loves it and is so verbal when we read it. It is his favorite out of many books. We read it twice almost every night. He screams with glee at the mere sight of it. He actually sounds out the letters as we turn to each new page. He points to the bubbles, doughnuts and neckties for counting even though he cannot count yet but likes when I do. He does "nice" on my hair when we get to the "mighty nice mice". He quacks like a duck for the Quaking Quacker-oo. He "roars" when he sees the Red Rhinoceros and Yellow Yak. Each page is excitement to him even though we have read it countless times. He also has the board book (which is slightly different) and I let him play with that one so as not to ruin this one. I highly recommend this book.

A demanded book in this household! 2004-08-11
We checked out the book and tape at the library. A week later, I had the whole thing memorized. When we got our own copy of the book, we unfortunately did not get the cassette. Oh, well. Like I said, I had it memorized.
The boys simply demand it. My older one, almost three, tells me, "you sing song," and I know what he means. The other day I sang the song and watched him turn the pages and stay on the right pages. The cassette features several different singers using different styles of music to sing out the words of the fabulously popular book. Sometimes there are sound effects, but usually not.
It's a great way to reinforce the alphabet song. Several letters are introduced by singing the alphabet song up to that letter and then some of the other songs seem to have the alphabet tune to them.
The book has great graphics. Of course it does, it's Seuss. But there again, these are great illustrations and are a great way to teach the alphabet and a tiny bit of phonics. Phonics or whole word is not the focus, here. Rather, having fun with the alphabet, loving reading, and playing with words is what's going on here.
It's a great set. Try to get the cassette version, if that's what you like. We loved it!

Disappointing 2008-03-10
While the illustrations are cute, Dr. Suess's ABC's did not hold my 4-year-old's attention. I was disappointed that the book didn't use simpler language, so beginning readers could try sounding out some words on their own.

X is very useful if your name is Nixie Knox... 2008-02-14
Dr. Seuss's ABC Beginner Book is perhaps the best way I know to introduce your child to the alphabet. There's a lot of fun for young children in this book; the illustrations are wonderful and the use of the letters in making new words for children is excellent. It truly reflects well on Dr. Seuss that he wrote such a fine book for young child just beginning to learn how to read.

This book introduces young children to the alphabet by first showing them the letters of the alphabet in both upper case and lower case forms; and then (usually on the next page) the child sees a thing or a creature with a name that starts with the letter being introduced. This book also asks questions to make children think. For example, the book at one point asks "What begins with (the letter) B?" The answers in the book use as many words beginning with that letter as possible; and I think that's very good.

The book also encourages young children to go ahead and learn more with a sprinkling of pats on the back like "Hooray! Hooray!" This is a very good strategy.

The hardcover of the book is strong enough to resist any accidental damage your young child may want to do to it; and the quality of the paper is excellent.

Overall, Dr. Seuss's ABC is a fine book that remains one of the best ways for children to learn the alphabet even all these years later after it was first written and published. I highly recommend this book for children just beginning to learn the alphabet.

Great Book for Children 2007-07-28
This is a great children's book. This is my grandson's favorite book. He always grabs this book, climbs up in my lap and wants the book to be read to him. He knows all of his abc's and the sounds for each letter which I credit to the book being read to him so many times. If you get a children's book - get this one and then add others. Highly recommended!

SO GREAT FOR KIDS 2007-06-26
My son has to have this read to him every single night. and i love to read it to him because he has helped him learn his ABC and remember them! When my son sees the words in the book in real life (example baby bumble bee( he will say what letter it begins with. GREAT BOOK!!!

Essential ABC book! 2007-04-20
This book is an EXCELLENT way to get your child interested in and learning about the alphabet. It's honestly the best alphabet book I've come across so far. The rhythm and rhyming will capture children's interest and you'll soon find that your child is able to recite the entire book! I love that it shows upper *and* lower case letters -- something that a lot of alphabet books lack. The illustrations are typical Dr. Seuss -- silly and whimsical and just perfect for kids.
