seuss for all. 2007-05-23
You can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss. His non-sensical rhyming inspires word play and imagination in my six year old son as it did for me when I was his age.

The worst of Seuss 2007-04-13
My wife bought this for our daughter for christmas several years back and frankly it is a terrible book. This coming from a huge fan of Dr. Seuss. It basically has no story or interesting plot at all. The purpose of the book is just to have a bunch of tongue twisters just to have them there. I really was surprised how bad this book was since I love so many other Dr. Seuss books (our child has at least 15 other seuss books we love). Honestly, my child picks this book periodically for bed time stories, and my wife and i will cringe when reading this. Also, our child doesn't really seem to care for it either.

"This game makes my tongue quite lame sir...what a shame sir" 2007-04-11
My absolute favourite Dr. Seuss book is Fox in Socks.
My Mother still tells me how this book would torment her tongue every time i asked for it, just as Fox in Socks torments Mr Knox with his hilarious tongue twisters.
Do some tongue exercises before attempting this one. You and your child will laugh all the way through.

Tounge Twisting Fun 2007-01-09
My Pre-schooler love hearing Mommy & Daddy "mess up" while trying to read this tongue twisting first reader book. It's very funny - takes rhyming words and makes a game out of linguistic education. Starts out with "Fox in socks" and romps through to end with "tweedle beetle puddle muddle fuddle duddle...". The trip through is hilarious to kids and challninging to read to both kids and adults! When you can read it fine - try it faster! Hours of entertainment from three generations - fun to read or listen to it read....

it grew on me 2006-08-08
When we first bought this book for my then two-year old daughter, I could barely get through it the first time. I didn't much like it. That's probably because I was so busy trying to say the words it, I couldn't pay attention to what was actually happening. Since then, the book has grown on me, and my now three-year old daughter loves it, as well. After reading the book aloud a gazillion times, I can now say it almost without getting my tongue twisted, and my favorite part is the ending, where Knox finally gets his "revenge" for what Fox has put him through.

One minor complaint: Seuss uses the word "dumb," a word I would prefer to keep out of my daughter's vocabulary, and it could easily have been replaced with "glum," a change I try to institute when I read the book.

A Great Seuss Book for a Child Interested in Tongue Twisters - a review of "Fox in Socks" 2007-11-28
This is a GREAT tongue-twister book for children still learning to read. Here's an example of what you will find.

New socks.
Two socks.
Whose socks?
Sue's socks.

As with most Seuss books the words the sentences start out simple and then get more complicated so that children can sort of 'warm up' to the reading. Here's a sample from later on.

Through three cheese trees
three free fleas flew.
While these fleas flew,
freezy breeze blew.
Freezy breeze made
these three trees freeze.
Freezy trees made
these tree's cheese freeze.
That's what made these
three free fleas sneeze.

(My tongue actually got tired--LOL!)

The Accelerated Reading (AR) designation for this book is 2.1 which means that it is essentially a book for beginning Second Graders. [It's fun for a whole range of readers though.]

Four Stars [B+] ::: Written at the 2nd Grade level, this Dr. Seuss book is great fun for anyone interested in tongue twisters.

Great book 2007-10-07
This is a really fun book to read to your preschool / pre-k child. It's really enjoyable - both for the parent reading it (for the 10th time) and for the child listening to it. My child loves it. I often buy it as a gift for other children.

Graphic SF Reader 2007-09-03
The Fox is certainly a better vulpine than I am, given that I couldn't stand running around with socks on my feet.

This incongruity is perhaps part of why I found this book highly amusing as a very young kid, so, a good fun production by Seuss.

Classic Seuss 2007-07-04
The very same seuss poetry we read to our children 30 years ago, we are now reading to our grandchildren. Thank you Amazondotcom for your fantastic bargains!!!!!!!!!!

Not just for kids 2007-05-31
As a community theater director, I was running out of tongue-twisters for the traditional vocal warmups when I remembered "Fox in Socks." I brought my dogeared copy down to the theater and ever since, it's been part of my standard backstage warmup repertoire. Even the most jaded actors light up in grins when I lead them through the Tweedle Beetle Battle.
