Disappointing 2007-01-19
I found this book more descriptive than practical. The author dwealt on characteristics of the various communication problems kids may have, and lengthy case studies. The real let down was practical tips on what parents can do about it! The author generally refers the reader to specialists like a speech pathologist or a "special education teacher" or a psychologist. You could save money by not buying this book, and just get a referral to a specialist.

A disappointment.

All you need to help your child on speech problems 2006-08-14
This is a great resource for parents who are trying to figure out if their children have some sort of language problem. The author does an excellent job by naming every different problem and defining very clearly each concept. It is also good to find resources to help your child in case you do not have insurance that can cover your child's speech therapy. The cases presented are also very good since some of them can apply to your real life situation. If you are looking for a great tool to confirm language issues, you have it!

Lots of great info and very easy to read! 2002-08-28
I found this book to be an excellent and comprehensive guide. My daughter has a speech and language problem, but until reading this book I didn't realize how her listening problems were related. I showed the book to her teacher and we able to get an audiologist who could diagnose her auditory processing problem. Now she is getting the right help, and I will be eternally grateful to this author for writing this fabulous book. I wish I had read this when she was younger because perhaps I would have known what to look for. The symptoms are subtle in the younger child and become a little more obvious once they are trying to function in a classroom. I highly recommend this book!!

FABULOUS BOOK!!!! 2002-08-09
I couldn't disagree more with the previous review. I found this book to be totally reassuring. In fact, over and over it tells the parent it is not your fault. It lists ways you can help your child, but doesn't ever say you caused the problem. I have a 6 year old son with a speech and language problem, including apraxia at one time. There IS information about it in the 2001 edition. I wonder if she has the most recent edition? I found the book to be easy to read and understand. It was much more helpful than the other books I have read or purchased on this topic. It was recommended to me by my sister, who is the head of a major pediatric speech pathology clinic. She said it was technically the most accurate book on the topic out there.

Don't feel blamed 2002-07-25
My daughter was diagnosed with severe verbal Apraxia and mild oral motor apraxia. After the initial shock wore off I searched high and low to find out as much as I could. I was disapointed to find that this book hardly mentioned this serious speech disorder. I also was angered by the authors attitude towards the reasons or happenings behind speech disorders. I felt that the author either blamed a birth injury or lack of parenting. My daughter has been read to every night, taken to the best pre-school for enrichment, played with at the park etc. I have been a stay at home mom and involved with her in every level. Her speech disorder is not my fault or anyone elses. It just happens. Parents with speech disabled children feel bad enough, they need a uplifting book that reassures.

A very good resource 2008-07-06
As a mom of a six year old who is experiencing some listening and speech issues, I found this book to be easy to be clear, understandable and easy to read.

Excellent, informative book. 2008-01-29
I originally borrowed this book from the library, and ended up ordering myself a copy so I could highlight pages (which I never do, but the information was so pertinent to my child's condition). I've never felt compelled to write a review before, but wanted to recommend this book highly. This book helped me realize some of my child's issues that two speech and language pathologists did not even mention. It also described the evaluation results and scores in a thorough manner (which the SLPs also neglected to do). It is important for parents to educate themselves so they can be partners in the work their children and speech therapists will undertake. The book lists examples of situations that children with certain disorders/conditions experience (a light bulb went off for me, it was so important to understand how the condition affects my child's experiences). Also, suggestions for helping the parent and teacher work more effectively with the child are included. Highly recommended.

Childhood Speech, Language & Listening Problems 2007-11-04
This book is very informative and easy to read. I would definitely recommend it to parents who wish to have more knowledge about speech disorders in children.

This book will help you connect the dots 2007-09-06
This book is worth $100. Actually, it is priceless. If your child is language delayed, fussy and quirky, more mercurial than his/her peers...this book will help you identify these behaviors and discover the reasons behind your child's actions. Finally, you will understand the communication difficulties your child is experiencing and you will understand why he/she acts as they do.

This book is easy to read. You will recognize your child in the identified behaviors and you will discover that there may be multiple issues. Our child had been diagnosed with intermittent middle-ear fluid by a highly skilled team: ENT, Speech Pathologist and Audiologist. But it was this book that help us pinpoint the other behaviors and discover/address the Auditory Processing issue. Our team was satisfied with the diagnosis of Middle Ear Fluid for our child's language articulation issues...and this book is helping us get our child the help she needs.

Great service. 2007-02-14
I received this book and was really surprised to see what great shape it was in for a used book. It liked a new book. I will definitely keep using Amazon for my book needs.
