Editorial Review
Bored and dissatisfied with his life, a triangle visits a local shapeshifter to add another angle to his shape. Poof! He becomes a quadrilateral. But then he gets greedy and keeps adding angles until he's completely transformed. Kids will enjoy this boldly colorful introduction to shapes and basic math concepts.

Now available in Scholastic Bookshelf editions, the Brainy Day Books have been developed by nationally acclaimed math educator and best-selling author Marilyn Burns. Using entertaining fictional stories, these books dispel the myth that math is dry, inaccessible, and unimaginative. At the end of each book, there's a special section that further outlines math concepts and provides questions to further engage children.

Excellent book 2007-06-06
I agree with all the other parents - my 6 year old son loved this book. I am very glad it's out there.

The Greedy Triangle (Brainy Day Books) 2007-02-20
A great introduction to geometry and the different shapes. Shows the relationships of different shapes to everyday items.

Eductational and fun to read 2006-11-10
A really cute tale of Triangle getting bored being a traiangle. He then gets bored being quadralateral, pentagon, etc. As he morphs into the different shapes the reader learns the names of new shape. Very cute!

Sensational Shapes Story with Marvelous Message 2006-09-12
This book is a delight on many fronts. It is a great, fun story about shapes which provides an entertaining way to expand a child's knowledge of informal geometry. Not only are children introduced to the proper names of polygons, but also this book helps them to see shapes as they exist in their surroundings. Also this fun book has a great message - it's good to be you!

Fun with religious allegory 2006-09-07
I seriously think everyone should read this book, simply to be amused by looking for sinister religious messages in its plot, which consists of a protagonist triangle (notably NOT a square, pentagon, or circle) who wishes to experience life from the point of view of a shape with more sides, so he visits a "Shape-Shifter" (i.e. Satan/Eve) who transforms the triangle into a series of polygons with increasing numbers of sides.

Now, at this point, I expected the protagonist to become a hexagon and go straight to hell, but (after a conspicuous absence of his pentagonal stage) instead he becomes so "greedy" (glutonous, thirsty for knowledge and experiences of the flesh) that he obtains a number of sides so great that he is rendered almost circular. Soon, however, he realizes the error of his circular ways (a.k.a. experimient in cyclic theories in spirituality/the feminine/transportational technology), returns to the Shape-Shifter, and sheds all but his three holiest sides and angles.

Good first book for children learning about shapes 2008-05-21
This is a very cute book about shapes and is perfect as an introduction for children who have moved beyond basic circles, squares, and ovals. It introduces children to the triangle and works its way up to a decadron (although it defines a dodecadron at the back of the book when the story is over). I liked how it showed children where different shapes can be found in everyday life, and how a shape morphs just from adding one more side to an already existing shape. The story is cute, and it is a much nicer way for children to learn about shapes than most of the standard books that just show a drawing of something and then show a word to describe the object.

Cute and educational! 2008-05-10
What an adorable book! This is a great way to teach geometry, and the colors are amazing. I as a teacher appreciate the obvious math connections, but on the deeper level you can make this a story of being true to yourself and recognizing your own greatness (truly, the triangle is indeed one of the strongest shapes despite having a mere three sides). The shapes come to life, especially the title Triangle, and the reader becomes both annoyed and supportive of him as he goes through his bizarre and clever journey through the world of geometry. Adorable story and gorgeous illustrations.

Love it! 2008-03-04
It is a great way to learn about shapes for kids! With a little moral to the story! :)

The Greedy Triangle still rocks! 2008-03-01
The paperback version of Marilyn Burns' tale of a dissatisfied triangle is bright, colorful and full of real life references. Children grasp the concepts of polygons and their uses through this fun story of a triangle who ends up alienating its friends after visiting the shapeshifter far too many times. Discovering in the end, "there's no place like home!"Greedy Triangle (Scholastic Bookshelf)

Help your child enjoy math 2007-09-06
I really liked this book - very whimsical! It would be great for kids who are just learning about shapes as well as those who need to review.
