Customer Reviews
Wonderful for Beginners
2008-11-09
Updated review: It is good for the price. But I am a little disappointed that the music in DVD/CD is for companion only so I can't tell if I play flute right or not. I am self-starter without much music background.
Orignial: I have read some books for flutes with good reviews, this is the best for the price, it has nothing of fluff, color, clip art, and facts not specific to flute. Make sure you buy the book1 which includes the very good DVD, I haven't tried the CD yet. My 9-year-old son and I both are beginners, my son will learn from a good teacher, I think I can just learn from this book for a while as a good start.

I like the product but would prefer a DVD as in level 1, instead of CD. Also, the CD did not include all of the music in the book, as did level 1, & I am unable to find the optionsl CD's that have the music.
better than some worse than others

this book is loaded with fluff, color, clip art, and facts not specific to flute. The small pieces of songs featured on the pages are a nice strat to something that could be done much better.

Great Book for Bands and Beginners

We bought this book for our 11-year-old daughter. She plays piano and is now learning flute, her brother (13) plays clarinet for the high school band. The band teacher also agreed on the quality of the book and CD. We all agreed, this book is a good help because it can be read and understood by children as young as 10 year old. Offers easy to understand ways and the companion CD makes learning a pleasure. Living in a small southern town, our children enjoy spending their time learning music. Not for advanced 7th graders

I am one of the top ten trumpet players at school. I got this book about 2 months before sixth grade ended because I wanted a challenge. It is now the 5th week of seventh grade and I can already play everything in the book. It's way too easy for advanced students with good articulation and tone.
Fantastic Method for Young Beginners!

This book was purchased solely on the basis that it was the one the band teacher at my daughter's school is using. However, being of a musical background myself, I can tell you with some authority that this book (and perhaps the whole series) is exactly what suited my 11-year-old's ability and enjoyment level. It is written in an easy to understand way and the companion CDs make learing a true pleasure. A very worthwhile purchase. Please take note, if you do not have any musical background yourself, this may be a bit difficult for you to teach your own child. I would not recommend this book for a "do-it-yourselfer". Thanks for listening.
