Love it! 2008-08-05
Great book. Have always wanted it and I really enjoy reading it with my son who likes it too!

We don't pull it out often enough 2008-06-24
Probably because I prefer to sing the song :)

It's very cleverly designed - every page you turn, you can see how the old woman is cramming more and more animals into her belly until the horse fills it entirely - then she's dead, of course! (And that's precisely why one should never swallow a horse.)

I don't mind, even remotely, the discussion of death. Why? Because most kids are creepy, morbid, bloodthirsty little creatures anyway, and this natural trait should really be encouraged. My little nieces sing that final line with relish, because it is quite silly - she ate a horse! She's dead! You should never eat horses!

Of course, if I try singing "You are my sunshine", they start crying. They don't want me to go away and never come back... or something.

Most Horrible Childrens Book EVER written 2008-04-16

Book review 2008-02-05
The only thing I can complain about is the way the book is written makes it very hard to read because it is written in a circle format. I wish that they had just written it like a regualr book so it would be more easy to read. I would look for a different printing so that you could read it more eaisly. The book itself is great.

Really cute book 2008-02-05
I can see why this book got the awards - it is beautifully illustrated and very fun to read. It's easy to read as is, or to remind you of the words to the song to sing to your little one(s). I would highly recommend this to anyone!

A bit garish 2008-02-05

This is my second purchase of this book 2008-01-12
We taped up the first copy so many times we just had to replace it. This has been my 4 children's favorite book since my first was 1 and she is now 9. Buy it you won't regret it!

Perhaps she'll die?? 2008-01-11
I bought this book because it has very good review as a children book. I liked the pictures & the idea of an old lady who swallowed a fly seems quite funny. But until I read, "I don't know why she swallowed a fly. Perhaps she'll die." (2x), and at the end, "She's dead of course." I didn't find it very funny after all. Maybe I just don't get the humor of it. Therefore, I don't think that it's appropriate for little children.

Great Little Book 2007-11-11
My three year old loves it cause I sing it to him. The illustrations are vibrant and well done. The story is that same one that we have all been singing since we were kids. Great book.

perfect for any age 2007-11-07
My daughter is only 2 1/2 and loooooves this book, and I have to say, her parents are a bit smitten with it as well. We rented it from the library, and now it's a must for Christmas. Well done artistically, compelling the reader to peruse that much longer on each page and allows for discovery of new images each time. A must have for any child's library!!
