I LOVE THIS BOOK!
I was looking for a fun short story to read to my baby in utero. My librarian showed me this book then. Now I still read it to my little girl. It makes me giggle every time. I love it!

Dad likes this one a lot!

My daughter and husband spend time reading this one together, and he lets her SHOUT the refrain from each page. She loves to feel like she's reading to him, even though she hasn't learned to read yet.

We had checked this book out at our local library and liked it so much we just had to purchase it. Great price.

Cute, but not my favorite of Boynton's books

Maybe this book will grow on me over time as I read it to my son, but so many of the Boynton books have a joyful tone to them. This one didn't seem as catchy or fun as some of her other ones. My son is 21 months old, so he is mostly entertained my my reading to him and looking at the pictures anyway. But this one doesn't catch his interest as much as "The Belly Button Book" and many of the others that are just plain fun to read.

Love Sandra Boynton

In my eyes and the eyes of my kiddos (age 14 & 37 months) Sandra Boynton can do no wrong. And this book just adds to her great collection. The book is easy to read, colorful, and a lot of fun.

Fun, along with encouragement

In the spirit of Boynton books, this one lives up to her very good works. We enjoy them just for the fun of reading them... any lesson or encouragement that comes out of them is a plus.

Not a good message about self esteem

I love Sandra Boynton books. We have many and I want the rest but I just don't care for this book. Either I totally missed the point or she's sending the wrong message here. The hippo is left out of fun things time and time again then when the gang finally thinks to invite the hippo he only hesitates for a moment then runs to join the gang. The gang are inconsiderate fake friends. The hippo does not need fake friends and I will not encourage my child to join other kids that usually leave him out.

This book, like all of Sandra Boynton's books, is funny and fun to read to kids. I think I enjoyed reading this book just as much as the kids I was reading to did. I highly recommend all of Boynton's books to anyone who has a child in their life that they would like to read to.

Hilarious and entertaining

My 4-year old adores this book. It's quick, lighthearted, and funny. The "surprise" ending makes us laugh every time. All of the books in this Sandra Boynton series are great for pre-readers.

GREAT starting reader book

My daughter is reading at 4 years old. The hubs taught her the "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" song, so getting this for Christmas we a gas for them. She read it all the way through first time (had trouble with "cavort" and "armadillo", but other than that, a GREAT rhyming book for little kids.
