Great book for little ones
2008-06-12
My son loves this book. We started reading it when he was 18 months old and a year later he still loves it. It's great for learning to count. I gave it 4 stars however, because the typical toddler my son is, repeats are a must. So on round 3-4 of this book my voice starts to become horse from the different barking sounds the dogs make...
Great book!

I love this book. It could probably be argued that there is some educational value with the counting of dogs, but my child loves it because each dog barks different and he likes to bark along with them. It's really a brilliant book.
Annoying to read

I love most of the Boynton collection, but this book is really annoying. Barking page after page is boring. My daughter, who is now two, has never liked it either.
Great book - great author.

My son is a reader and this has always been one of his favorites. Even now that he is 2.5 he still likes the simple sillyness of it. You cant go wrong with Boynton
My daughter's favorite book!!!

My 10 month old daughter loves this book! We have dogs and "doggie" was her first word so naturally this is a winner! We read it every night and anytime she sees it laying around, she HAS to hear it. She has even learned to turn the pages while reading this book. I'd say it's all about the person reading this book... you can make this book really great (by really getting into the doggie sounds) or you can make it really boring for your child... I really recommend this book, just read it well!
So cute

Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions of her multi-million selling board books. These whimsical and hilarious books, featuring nontraditional texts and her famous animal characters, have been printed on thick board pages, and are sure to educate and entertain children of all ages.
It's a hit!

My two year old grandson Ben just loves this book. After it's been read to him "just one more time"he takes it to bed with him and reads it to himself until it's time to go to sleep. He is learning how to count, and loves all the doggies in the book. It's the perfect book for toddlers.
Bark for Boynton!

I'm pretty much sold on any Boynton Board Book - I've liked them all... this one is an especially fun counting (and barking) book. As usual, there are the wonderful Boynton art and animals (there is a particularly minimal background in this one)
She reinforced the counting with some of the sounds the dogs make (that kids will enjoy making too): "1 dog says Woof", doggie #2 says "ruff ruff", dog #3 whimpers three times, etc... but she doesn't let it get out of hand - 9 dogs howl (together) at the moon... and thankfully, there are quiet dogs on one page:) The repetition is very good for young kids and the ending has one of Boynton's clever 'punch lines' that just make you laugh (even if you are not three years old)
If you've got young kids and love dogs, this book really needs to be on your shelf. If you have young kids, it belongs on your shelf... It also deserves a place on the shelves of the silly joyful dog loving adults who remember the joys of childhood.
My College Kids Favorite Book As Children
2007-05-12
When my kids were small and because we are pet lovers, this book became an immediate hit in our home. When I saw it again, I had to buy as our original copy disappeared during our several moves.
The book has been shortened and unfortunately each number which used to have it's own page is now sharing with other numbers. I guess this is progress?? We still are happy to have it in our library. It's one of the sweetest learning books I have ever seen or read to my children.

This is my 16 month old's favorite book. MY husband and I get tired of making all the dog sounds, but he doesn't! A cute book!
