I first went to Mr Bodenhamers work shop. Then got the book when it came out. I could write a book about what I went through with my son. His common sense plan for working with children work. My son will still say "Never the Less" or "Regardless". This works in many relationships not just teens. Bought it for my daughter she read it and when she used the method it worked but then went back to the same old habits. Just remember saying take the trash out doesn't always work... I loved it when my daughter told her teen to get to bed now.. she said but I... My daughter said never the less now. Then just stood there, Nikki said are you just going to stay there until I do it ... yep was the answer she got mad but she was in bed within minutes.

Common Sense that works for everyone

I bought this book at a garage sale when my son was only a toddler "just in case" I ever needed it. It remained on the book shelf, unread, until lately when same son is almost 17 years old.

Regardless of the age of the child, this book contains lots of sense without lots of fancy language or the pop psychology ideas that might be misleading you at the moment. It is blunt and to the point. Nothing hard to figure out at all. (Best of all, you don't need the sticker charts or any of that nonsense that never worked with my kids.) And if you get nothing else out of the contents of this book, but knowing you are on the right track and/or the inspiration to stay on that track, it is well worth the money spent.

The main premise is that punishment in the traditional sense does not work or the child wouldn't find such reward continuing the bad behavior. Pick the rules that are worth enforcing and MAKE SURE they are consistently carried out each and every time. When parents are back in control of the rules for acceptable behavior, their children will also be back in control of following them. And everyone lives happily ever after....well, better than before, anyway. :)

This book is so simple and easy to read and it works - makes you wonder how you lost control in the first place. I wish I had read this book sooner.

Already Helping!

I bought this book last month on the recommendation of my best friend, a child psychologist. It's already helping to get the defiance and attitude of my 9 year old under control! It's helped me focus on issues, and not emotions--which then allows the issues to be the focus for her, not my or her emotions. I highly recommend this book! But be careful and don't laugh when you child flings "I"M tired of the word regardless!" at you!

You must buy this book.

Easy to impliment and works great! 2007-01-20
This is bar-none the best book about parenting problems. Our 12 year old daughter was becoming snotty and ugly. It wasn't bad enough to warrant Tough Love, but we were at our wits ends trying to reason with her.

After reading this book, we were able to cope with the situation quickly, and avert WWIII. I hand it out to anyone I know who is having trouble with their kids. It is THE BEST!

I first read this book 14 years ago, and this is the best parenting book I have read, and still recommend it today. It has practical help that works immediately, and is quick to read.

Good Read, Effective Advice 2005-09-21
I bought this book, because I have a pre-teen, who is extremely strong-willed, and I wanted to prevent having a teenager in 5 years, who is out of control.
This book is easy to read, the methods are simple and can be implemented immediately. I used this firm, yet calm and loving approach in a 6th grade school camp that I attended as a chaperone, and I did not have any problems with disobedience whatsoever. Being precise really works. It has also worked very well in our own home, and several things I could never get my daughter to do are routine now.
I recommend this book, if you want something that doesn't give you psychobabble, but gets straight to the point.

this book has changed the lives of everyone who has read it... i have purchased over 20 copies, and given to friends and clients, and refer everyone, who is having problems with their kids, young or old.... and have received flowers for the referrals.... i just bought 10 more.... buy it, read it... and read it again..... personally, i bought the book, when i started having problems with my 12 year old, he changed after i read the book.. he graduated valedictorian.... cant say enough about it.
