Great Book for a 2 Year Old!
2008-08-05
We bought this book for my son (2 years) when I was pregnant with our second child, who was born this past May. While I was pregnant, he wasn't interested in the book and gave a defiant "NO!" whenever I tried to read it- but once the baby came, it quickly became a favorite. My son has it memorized and will "read" it to himself and his baby brother. The book is simple and easy to understand but also gives some good guidance that toddlers can understand (such as needing to ask Mommy first to pick up the baby!). It also focuses on him and not the baby (i.e. "I'm special in a new way- I'm a big brother now!"). This book became an instant favorite when my son recently gave the baby a big hug and whispered, "I love you Brady. I'm your big brother now".
wonderful book, for kids of all ages

I bought this book for my son, to prepare for the arrival of his baby sister. He was only 16m when I started reading it to him, and almost 2 when his sister ws born. He LOVED this book. he requested it nightly (making my life easier cause I would have read it anyway =)) He was so excited to be the BIG brother by the time his sister arrived, and I really believe this book helped with that. It points out all the great thing tha big kids can do that babies cannot. It also show the care and attention a baby will require, at the same time showing how both the baby and big sibling are special. Even after the birth of my daughter I continued to recite the book, when my son would want her to eat play ect, I would say "the baby is to little to walk, to little to talk to little to play with toys, to little to eat pizza and apples and ice cream. " this would satisfy him, and he'd move on. I would certainly buy/recommend this book to anyone exspecting another child.
Read and re-read

They tell me that this book was read twice the day it was received. It gave mom another reason to sit quietly with big brother and give him some attention and give him positive feedback about becoming a big brother. The new baby was adopted and it happened "overnight" almost so big brother was "caught off guard". This book was a big help in smoothing the process.
Great!

My 2 1/2 year old took great interest in this book from the first time we read it. He's still not quite putting together the fact that there is a baby in mommy's belly, but he seems very excited to be a big brother now. He definitely likes the distinctions of what he can do that the baby will not be able to do.
Very wonderful Book!

I bought this book for my six year old nephew who is going to get a baby sister in May 2008. I read the book when it arrived at my house. I loved it...it was simple to read and the pictures where nice too. I'd suggest this book for others looking for this type of book.

I can't rate it because I never recieved it. I was sent another book instead called "My Big Girl Potty." I intended to send it back, but never got around to it.
Very nice gift for a first time big brother. Give it early.

This will help a lot to understand that things will be different when the new baby comes and the first child is no longer the center of attendtion but can help with adult supervision. I got one for my granddaughter then bought Big Brother for a friend whose daughter is expecting her second child.
The Best Choice Award!

This is my (soon to be two years old on Feb. 23rd, 2008) grandson's favorite book (out of the three I bought him) on helping him to understand what his new role of being a brother is!
The other two books, My New Baby and The New Baby are good too, but just not as good. There must be something about this book that enables him to relate better and/or it gives him a more enjoyable impression of what being a big brother is.
