Great for our 2 year old
2008-05-23
This book is great for a toddler, it talks about being a big sister and that she can talk, walk and eat pizza, apples and ice cream, unlike the new baby. It involves Daddy in caring for the baby. At the end it says that Mommy and Daddy love me, I'm special. It does start with "who's in our new house, our new baby". We haven't had the baby yet, but it's preparing my daughter. The pictures are interesting and she loves the book.
Developmentally appropriate

Excellent book! My 21-month old daughter immediately identified with the big sister in the story. The pictures are very informational and the words of the story are the right length for reading to a toddler. I am very impressed by this author/publisher. I would recommend to anyone prepping for a newcomer in the home.
Great for new siblings

This book among a couple of others really helped my daughter after her little sister was born. It was especially hard on her because she was an only child for 5 years, but this book explains exactly what she needed to know about being a big sister. Including the fact that she is still just as special to me as the baby is, even though I can't give her the attention I used to.
Cute book

It's hard to find specific books in the store and I really wanted one for my daughter that would talk about being a big sister. I thought this book was very cute for what it was for.

Good book. My son likes the big brother version, so we got this for his cousin when she was awaiting her little brother to be born.
Excellent book - my daughter still likes it 2 years later

I bought this for my 17 month old toddler and she loved it and read it before and after the baby was born. I suggest this book to everyone I know who is having another child. My daughter still likes to read this book and my son is now 2 years old.
Sweet and Perfect for my 2-Year-Old

My baby is due in five weeks and we've been reading this to my two year old for a few months. She loves the book and now finishes sentences while I'm reading it. Its simple, not too descriptive, and is getting her excited to be a "Big Sisser"...as she calls herself now. We use our names in addition to Mommy, Daddy, and Big Sister, to relate it more to us.
Big Hit - Great Pictures

My 20 month old really enjoys this book. We talk through the pages and I can see her mind ticking when she looks at the illustrations. I'm pretty confident that she can relate the big sister to herself (we always say the little girl is her)and the baby we are expecting. She asks for the book a lot and seems really focused every time we read it. I think it is a big help in explaining to a toddler how important there job will be as big sister and that they are part of what is going rather than someone who is going to be left out.
The best Big Sister book ever
2008-05-26
This book is one of the best. Very well written with a lot of positive reinforcement for the little big sister. It elevates the status of the big sister, makes her feel important and makes her want to be a big sister. This is in stark contrast with the other books that are out there which induces feelings of neglect on the part of parents and jealousy on the part of the big sister. My daughter was 20 months when she had her baby brother, she loved to read this book then. Now she is 4 and still loves to read this book. There is a version for big brothers too.
My 22 month old loves this book

I'm expecting our 2nd child (a boy) in 5 weeks and just purchased this book for my 22 month old daughter. She has wanted to read it over and over and over (whew!) and recites it now when she's playing by herself. The illustrations are cute, there were plenty of things to point out to her and I substituted some of the phrases in the book (i.e. saying "baby brother" instead of "baby) to help her associate the book with what we've been verbally trying to prepare her for during the last few months. We'll see if it makes a difference once the baby actually gets here but so far, it seems like she's actually kind of "getting it"...that the new baby in our house will be like the baby in the book and she'll be a big sister, just like the girl in the book.
