Editorial Review

Alexander knew it was going to be a terrible day when he woke up with gum in this hair.

And it got worse...

His best friend deserted him. There was no dessert in his lunch bag. And, on top of all that, there were lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV!

This handsome new edition of Judith Viorst's classic picture book is sure to charm readers of all ages.

The reviews are funnier than the book 2009-05-31
I absolutely positively love the negative reviews of this book. I realize there are differences in taste and experience, but people seem to miss that the book makes it okay to have a bad day. It validates, from a child's point of view, that your whole day can go horribly terribly wrong. This book is far from negative and depressing, it's uplifting!

My son and I both love this book. It's a soothing reminder that everyone has bad days from time to time. Every mom forgets something in the lunch box. Big brothers are sometimes pills. And there's that one pair of pajamas that just aren't right. This book makes all that yucky stuff OKAY, and that's a gift.

Very Pleased 2009-05-26
I loved this book and it came to me quickly and in good condition! I had seen it in the past and thought it was a poem. I used it as a performance peace for a church function.

Alexander is great! 2009-05-14
My daughter loved this book. She is 7 and it was right at her reading level.

Very good lesson - even for adults 2009-05-07
This book was mentioned in a book called 'Lies Women Believe'. It got my curiosity so I looked for it and bought it. not only is this a great book for kids on how to deal with the 'bad stuff' that happens sometimes, it's a good lesson for adults. Very cute title too!

A Fun way to say "Grrrrrr" 2009-04-20
I almost didn't buy this book for my four year old, who was having a hard time expressing his emotions verbally, because of some of the feedback on Amazon. I am so glad that I did in fact purchase the book to read with my son. He really enjoyed hearing about Alexander's terrible, horrible, no good, really bad day and has since been better about expressing his negative feelings to me and equating his feelings with those of Alexander. PS: We also really like Alexander who used to be rich last Sunday.

great book that helps young kids understand "bad" days 2009-04-17

We can all relate to Alexander's day 2009-04-07
This is one of my all-time favorite books. We all have bad days occasionally and Judith Viorst manages to find humor in the everyday disappointments, rejections and disasters of a child's life. Whether it's the cat sleeping with his brother or having to watch "kissing on TV," humor sneaks into the problematic day. We use the story's refrain to describe our "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days," helping us to keep things in perspective. The black and white ink drawings by Ray Cruz are darling. It's a wonderful addition to any child's library...and a "must" to be brought out and read at the end of a bad day!

terrible, horrible, no good company 2009-03-16
i ordered 8 books from this company and have received 2.
it has been over 30 days. i have written 2 emails and no one responds. they state there's no other way to reach them, no cancellations and no refunds w/out returns. how can i return what i haven't gotten?
amazon is not helping.
i'd always felt i was always in good hands w/amazon.
in the future, i realize i have to be careful to see which purchases amazon will back up.

the best now and then 2009-03-09
i am a mom and a special ed teacher. who does not LOVE to say..."i am having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day"???? my 4 year old loves to say it, my 14 year old loves to say it. every class i have ever taught loves to say it. my husband even loved to say it while he was on the web cam from iraq. if someone does not love this, they are not fun at all. and they do not get kids or having a fabulous chuckle. this is a way to make even the most miserable person in the world laugh at his or her own misery. some things from the 70's are worth repeating. this is one. if you do not enjoy this book, you do not enjoy life. forget australia. move to mars!

There is no good moral of the story.... just depressing 2009-02-20
A very depressing story, it could have been salvaged with a good moral at the end. Black and white, and "oh woe is me" story. I'd skip this one.
