2003-02-07Overall, this book was a little too advanced for my soon-to-be three year-old cousin. Be sure to buy this book for a child who's older, because it's not a hardcover book (a little one will rip this easily) and it might be a little difficult for a toddler to interact with the story.
A great book

My 2 year old is a big Dora fan and this book is requested at bedtime every night. It is very interactive (there are lots of questions in it like "where is boots?" or "Can you count the books?" ) It is a good inexpensive book for any Dora fan.

I was not pleased with this purchase and am sending it back. It did not arrive in the appropriate time, and was not worth the money in shipping. It cost me four times the amount of the book.
Dora's backpack book

I read this book to a kinder bilingual class and they loved it. Dora is with no doubt their favorite. Besides, Dora is helpful in preparing a lesson. I was able to teach geography, science, math, and language arts, all from this book. Not to mention the citizenship lesson in Dora returning her books to the library on time.
We also spoke about Dora hiking, which was a good intro for a P.E. class, and the benefits of exercise (health).
The children made their own Dora book adventure with them going for an adventure with Dora. It was an enjoyable lesson plan to prepare and to teach, and I know the children enjoyed their learning as well.
I also introduced this lesson with a Dora backpack (for myself) to the delight of all of the girls in the classroom.
Fantastic book!!!!
Book to Grow Into...
2006-02-02
My 19 month old daughter loves Dora and especially backpack. Everyone time Backpack comes on the show or is in one of the books she says her name. When I saw this book at the library I thought I'd give it a shot. Needless to say, I had to buy a copy. The book is a little more advanced than she is right now because there's a lot of interaction; answering the Grumpy Old Troll's quiz and lot's of pointing to things in Backpack, but she loves the story and it's something that she can grown into. I highly recommend this to Dora fans.
Go Dora Go! Counting, Problem Solving and more
2005-10-10
In this adventure, Dora sets off to return her library books. If you don't remember the television show, the obstacles include not knowing how to get there, the Grumpy Old Troll, a storm cloud, icky-sticky mud, crossing Turtle River, and a closed door at the library.
Most of these obstacles are solved with the help of Backpack and your child. The Map shows the way, and Backpack has the supplies to solve most of the problems if they only could figure out what to use. What Backpack can't do, you child can, by helping to point out what to use.
Pros:
What I like about this book is that there is alot to learn. Children can learn all about maps, for example. How they are representational of real terrain and places.
It also lets you and your children practiced rhyming. The Troll's quiz, for example, begs the question of what rhymes with `guizzers'? Scissors!
And the Backpack sequences lets children look at a collection of items, recognize their use, and then select the appropriate item. Sort of like, Problem Solving 101.
Also, there are many opportunities to count throughout the book, though the most obvious chance comes at the end when Dora counts to make sure that all of the books are there.
And finally, one of my favorite things is that the story is about the Library. Dora is associated with books and reading, thus setting a good example.
Four Stars. One of the better Dora books. In this one your child has plenty of opportunity to answer questions and help out their pals. Counting, Problem Solving, and more all at a good price.
Great book

I bought this book for my niece and she enjoys having me read it to her and point out pictures so she learns new words. She is a big Dora fan.
