Growing Up Just Got Easier...

With the help of Angus, the lovable Answer Dog, best-selling author Heidi Murkoff extends a hand to children and parents as they tackle life's first experiences together.

Congratulations! The new baby you've spent the last nine months preparing for has finally arrived. Although you may be prepared and thrilled, what about your older child? As your preschooler makes the transition from only child to older sibling, he or she will be excited, curious, and somewhat anxious about the little bundle you've brought home. We're here to help you answer your child's questions about what new babies look like, what they do and don't do, and what having one around the house will really be like.

Have fun!

Heidi and Angus

Creative reading for different age groups makes this a winner 2008-05-21
Reading this book word for word to my 3 year old daughter would not have worked. We read the big question at the top of each page and answer the question ourselves using the pictures. I slip in different things from the text each time and she loves it. It has made her very excited about a event she had been growling about untill we started reading this book. She has even started "reading" it to her stuffed animals. I would suggest this book to anyone with a child, of any age who is expecting. Read it once yourself and you can decide how best to "read" it with your child.

too late or too early 2006-07-20
I like the When to expect series for adults and that is why I have decided to buy this book. When I purchased it my daughter was 3 and my baby son 2 months. Many of the items in the book we have already explained to her on the day the baby came home from the hospital. The stories there are also too long for the toddlers attention.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN BABY COMES HOME 2006-06-28
THIS BOOK WAS A LITTLE TOO OLD FOR MY TODDLER GRANDSON TO UNDERSTAND. I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE DONE IN A YOUNGER VERSION OF BABY WILL CRY AND YOU WILL SEE MOMMY AND DADDY PICK IT UP AND FEED OR CHANGE IT AND YOU CAN HELP, ETC. IT WAS TOO TECHNICAL TO ENJOY FOR A TODDLER.

Great Information! 2006-04-27
I got this book for my 3 year old and I think it is great! It gives a lot of really good information that is on his level and I think it will really help a lot after I have the baby and bring her home. It is really helpful in preparing him for the changes that are about to happen and get us all talking about what we can expect. I am really glad that I ordered this book!!

Good but wordy 2006-03-20
This is a good book, but very wordy for young children. It explains things well, but you might have to skip a lot of the words and just describe the pictures.

Good book. 2006-02-27
This book along with what to expect when Mommy's having a baby, are wonderful tools for any older child. I ordered both and am very happy with them. It answered my daughter's questions, and gave me some ideas on how to help her feel involved.

Age Group Labeled Wrong 2006-01-18
The age group on this book should be more like 3 - 8 or even 4 -8. The recommended ages for this book are 2 - 5yrs, but there is loads more text than any 2 year old would ever listen to or understand. The information is way over the head of most 2 year olds and maybe even 3 year olds and very few pictures. The book is great at explaining a lot about new babies and would be a great book to have for siblings older than 4, but it is not geared towards the younger age group they claim it to be. This was a disappointment since my daughter is only 2 and at least my 2 year old needs more pictures and less words. I will have to do mucho ad libbing and shortening of this book....Thanks!

A Fun Book For Older Siblings of a New Baby 2005-09-21
What to Expect When the New Baby Comes Home is a fun book for children who are going to become brothers and sisters. Every other page has a question that a child my have regarding a new baby. Some examples are: "Why do New Babies Cry So Much?" and, "Can I Play with the New Baby?" Angus, the Answer Dog helps to answer these questions. He also puts a paw print on pages throughout the book. Next to these paw prints are suggestions for activities a child could do that are related to the question. Examples of these are: "Think of your favorite thing to do during quiet time when baby is sleeping," and "practice burping a doll or stuffed animal." I like this book and would highly recommend it for children ages 3-8.

Doesn't fit age group! 2004-11-24
The recommened ages for this book are 2-5yrs but they really should be more like 4-8. There is far more text than any 2 year old would ever listen to. I had to reword and shorten the entire book for my 2 1/2 year old. Plus the information is way over the head of a 2 or 3 year old. Yes the book explains a lot about new babies but it just wasn't geared towards the age group they claim it to be.
