Great book for beginners

If you own a home, this is the book for you because each page teaches you how to each project. Full of color pages, step by step instructions and a list of the tools you will need. For the expert, this is too simple, but for the novice, every project can be done.
I like how the book gives you the tools you will need so that if you do not have it, you can get it before you start the project.
The book covers all the basic home repairs that you may need from bathrooms to beadrooms, from door to windows and from interior to exterier. While it does not take on projects you want it takes care of all the project you need for your home.

Great for estimations and knowledge of what's involved. Have implemented some suggestions but probably would have to attend a free lesson at home depot to really do the advanced stuff. Great for small things like repairing toilets, snaking drains etc.

Good Book
OK for Starters

Ok for starters, not a ton of detail. Gives short descriptions of how to do basic things but doesn't do a great job going in to specific detail.
Also, most of the pictures are of exposed pieces of homes (i.e. walls, celings, etc. There aren't really a lot of pictures of exisiting rooms and closed calls).

Best Home Improvement Book Ever!! 2006-11-06
This book has been extremely helpful with the updating of our 30 year old home. It has easy to understand step-by-step instructions with pictures, it lists the skill level, tools and materials needed for each project. They've also included many special tips on using tools, purchasing materials, safety, etc. Our home improvement knowledge has increased greatly and are very pleased with the finished projects. We were so impressed with this book that we purchased one for our son.
Excellent overview, sometimes short on details 2006-03-09
Home Depot's take on home improvement is to pick common household repair items (e.g. replace toilet) and then go into excruciating detail about how to accomplish it.
This means you could fail to recognize a hammer, and still get walked through a subject matter and feel competent to complete it.
Yet, in other areas, they offer no more than a few quick tips. If you are a bit handy around the house and have done a few projects, this is enough to get started or at least get you pointed in the right direction for asking questions at the hardware store or doing more online research.
Overall, useful to have around as I am finishing my basement right now and have lots of little projects and lots of questions.

A great help to novice and intermediate DIYers. The details of structures, materials, tools and techniques, described in both writing and photographs, are excellent.

My husband and I have taken on quite a few home improvement projects and have used this book for all of them...the 1, 2, 3, instructions are practically idiot proof...and they let you know that no project is ever as easy as it looks. I love this book.
