~His advice really works~
2008-05-09
I have found the recommendations found in this book to be really helpful in my weight training endeavors. I am not sure if as some people on here claim that Earl Mindell is truly a Doctor and it matters not to me really. If your looking for infomation on some of the most common supplements on the market this is an excellent starting point. I have been following his advice on the product DHEA and have gotten some really good results from using it as well as using HMB and whey protein. So in short------if you want to educate yourself on the use of supplements this is the book for you. Like any supplements one should always consult with more than one source but at least this book will point in the right direction.
A book written by a phony doctor
2007-12-06
So "Dr." Mindell has a phony degree from a phony school, Pacific Western University. Go check it out on Google or Wikipedia even and you will find out the "school" is on the governments list of phony schools (ne' Diploma Mills) which means you pay a few hundred dollars and they send you a degree based on "life experience", not actually taking any courses or doing any coursework because they don't exist at these schools.
The problem is it is a disservice to all when a huckster tells you this. Right or Wrong. If he is right then he hurts the discussion by using his phony PH.d. If he is wrong then, well, he still hurts the discussion. There in lies the conundrum. He can do no good in this except not to do it. If he were claiming to be an Architect or an Engineer and planned out your house. Whether or not you think he did a good job, would you still be worried? If he tells you take "X" vitamin in "X" dose, should you be worried, knowing that he is lying about his credentials? And if you know he is a phony and his info is bad and you get hurt, should you be surprised? He may have got a lot of people thinking about Vitamin's power, but what will those people think once they find out he has been lying about who he is? Will they toss his advise? I personally would immediately reconsider when I found out.
To sum up, The LAST person I want doing heart surgery on me is Doctor Dre. I think that should speak volumes.
Knowledge Is Power
2007-01-19
Knowledge is power ... and if Earl Mindell has written it, you should be reading it ... and reading it often!
Face the facts ... prescriptions have become more than just expensive, they have become hazardous to your health! We see the commercials all the time ... this pill will help treat your illness, though the side-effects may kill you! Natural medicines work ... afteral, they were created by God, as was marijuana (anti-depressant) ... but even natural medicines should never be abused.
The scriptures of health
2004-05-07
The introduction to these scriptures explains exactly how vitamins, minerals, nutraceuticals, RDAs are defined and provides thorough background information about supplements and we need to take them.
Then follows the Hot Hundred nutritional supplements from Alpha Carotene to Zeaxanthin. Each entry provides the potential benefits and interactions of these substances, plus the food sources in which they are found. These are verily the 100 golden talents for good health, if not the 100 commendments.
The chapter Hot News About Old Favorites discusses aged garlic, capsaicin, reishi mushroom, GLA, Ginseng, Omega fatty acids, magnesium, selenium and many other well-known substances that for a very long time have been known to promote health.
In the chapter Fat Burners and Sports Supplements, stuff like androstenedione, CoQ10, creatine, pyruvate, amino acids and other supplements are investigated, whilst Mood Enhancing Supplements deals with inter alia SAMe, 5-HTP, St John's Wort and Tyrosine and contains a section Stress Busters with information on Kava Kava, DHEA and flower essences.
The other chapters are titled Supplements For Your Sex Life, A Brief Guide To Homeopathy, Hot Supplements From Around The World (including those from the Ayurvedic and Chinese traditions, and from the rain forests), Supplements For Sensational Skin and Get Smarter With Supplements (including discussions on Grape Seed Extract, Lipoic Acid, Vitamin E, DMAE, Ginkgo Biloba, Pregnenolone, Phophatidylserine and other major discoveries).
This excellent guide to what is hot on the supplement scene concludes with a bibliography and concordance. I also recommend The A - Z Guide To Supplements (Prescription For Nutritional Healing) by Phyllis A Balch, Renewal: The Anti-Aging Revolution by Timothy J Smith, The Superhormone Promise by William Regelson and Forever Ageless. Let these tried and trusted works of wisdom be a lamp unto your feet.
Valable health information which goes beyond vitamins.
2002-09-27
Earl Mindell is justly famous for his best-selling book Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible (Currently available as Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century). Thousands -- perhaps even millions -- of people have strengthened their health and even extended their lives with the information contained in Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible. Now Dr. Mindell has written an equally well-written and authoritive book which discusses dozens of nutritional supplements which are not normally covered in books on vitamins. Many of the supplements discussed in this new book -- including Coenzyme Q10, L-carnitine, and DHA, to name a few -- are every bit as important to human health as vitamins are. If you are seriously interested in learning about the broad scope of nutritional supplements which are currently available you will not want to be without this book.
Hmmm. Not so Fast.

The Supplement Bibble
2001-06-05
The main reason why I bought the book was due to my interest in "Fat Burners & Sport Supplements". It's great! In particular that a nove like me can get really confused about the tons of products available on this subject. The great thing about Mindell's book is that he trakes the results from different researchers, does his own, makes up his mind, and thus give you recommendations. If he likes a product (and he loves many!), he writes very persuavely. I will finally keep of my hands from any "fat burning" product, and wil instead use other products recommended like Chromium Picolinate.
Pleasantly surprised.

Earl Mindell has been around for so long, (no insult intented, Earl :-) ) and it was so long ago that I bought his Vitamin Bible that I was surprised to see this new book out on the market. What a wonderful testimony to his own healthy lifestyle for him to write this supplement to his Vitamin Bible on nutritional supplements, which can be such a daunting realm. Much of his work is corroborated at a site that I am quite familiar with, PapaNature. I have been ordering my vitamins and nutritional supplements from these folks, because, like Mindell, there is solid documentation given for their various products. I suspect they have their own copies of Mindell's books.
Terrific

Hi! I heard that Earl Mindell has a powdered supplement for weight loss....where can I obtain it?
Informative, easy to read; dispels myth and hype!
1998-07-12
Dr. Mindell's treatment of the subject of supplements is not just a blanket endorsement of each item you'll find on the shelves of your local health-food store. He walks you through an explanation of the supplement, providing examples and references to germane research (if there is any published), reviews the myth and hype surrounding its use, and then delivers a level-headed recommendation for its use or a well-reasoned arguement for abstaining. After doing extensive research on my own to try to find the "truth" about supplements, finding Dr. Mindell's book is like finding a nugget of gold in the information wasteland. Read and enjoy!
