A Great Repair Reference!
2001-11-27
I bought this book a week ago and I've already used a dozen of the tips. I'm a husband and father that values my time with my family. Little things around the house pop up that need to be mended or fixed all the time. By using the tips in this book, I already saved valuable time that I've spent with my family. When I was reading the book, I found myself making a list of things that needed to be repaired or fixed around the house. I ended up with a legal sized work list with 95% of it easy remedies that will not take long to do. The best part of it is that most of my repairs can be done right away with stuff around the house. I do not have to go to the hardware store for any special tools or cleaners. I never knew that baking soda could be used for more than keeping things fresh in the refridgerator! I like things done quickly, easily, and right the first time. This book is a great reference for everyday little fixits.
Fessing Up

As a very busy physician who relaxes by reading, I recently confessed to watching and enjoying cooking shows on T.V. while on my treadmill. Lo and behold many of the other docs in our lounge 'fessed up' to the same habit and we shared a laugh. Well, double Lo and behold, when I recently fessed up to reading and rereading "Mrs Fixit home repair" and using it as a reference scource for so many "diddly" household chores it created a stir. Several other docs (all male) bought the book and agree that this will someday be a "Dr. Spocks" for the household challenged. Lots of fun and very useful.

Perhaps the most easy-tp-read and easy-to-use helpful hints book I've ever read. Mrs. Fixit's book lays out sugestions and ideas in tip-sheet format. Her television spots are great; now I'm glad I can reference her tips for fixing things around the house through this book.
No Joke

Our daughter & son-in-law just purchased their first home & have been busy with painting and typical home owner repairs. I purchased the book as a gag gift for them - however, they refer to this book all the time for remedies and they work!! I would recommend this book to anyone who owns a house - a lot of the information is very basic and well defined and will save you $$$ money in the long run.
Incorrectly titled

Sorry to say this book was not at all what I was looking for. The title "Mrs. Fixit Easy Home Repair" let me to believe that it would provide instructions and tips on routine home maintenance chores. It provides very little of that, but too much other stuff that is not home maintenance, e.g., things like how to improve storage space, cleaning tips and hints, etc. Its a pretty slim volume and there are no detailed instructions for the precious few items that are related to home maintenance and repair, and no diagrams or illustrations. Not badly written but nonetheless, not appropriately titled, and a big disappointment.
The Other Side

... This a book designed for BEGINNERS. Having read other fix-it and frugal books, this was too simple to meet my needs. Only 4 suggestions are offered for each topic, but of course each project requires different numbers of instructions. The most annoying thing to me was faulty proof reading. I wanted to fix my toilet's working mechanism and the index said it was on XXX page, but the topic wasn't even in the book!
Good Fixins

1000 words are not enough to tell you how wonderful this book is. The only book in the house that is used more is the phone book.
Everyone in the family has been empowered to fix something. As the father of three teens, it's nice to have my children willing to handle household repairs on their own. Now, when I say you broke it, you fix it, the only question is "where's Mrs. Fixit?"
I would recommend this book to everyone and have.
Perfect reference tool!

I have been a loyal fan of Mrs. FIXIT for several years, I enjoy her news segments and refer to her website often to solve problems around my home. This book is great, I moved into a new home a few weeks ago and can't even say how many times I've used this book already. Way to go Mrs. FIXIT!!!
