My 4 yr old granddaughter loved this gift. She plays with it a lot. A great lap toy.
Wesley's Famous Review

Wow! What an ingenious idea. A book that is a purse! I think that every grandma deserves one of these books. They are fun and enjoyable for the whole family!
My kid loves this book, a glimpse into a secret adult world
2007-01-27
I'm writing this because I'm surprised that anyone would write a negative review for "My Granny's Purse," a clever, charming piece of readable sculpture that still intrigues my precocious 5 year-old daughter after a year and a half.
Despite lots of other available literary treasures, My Granny's Purse has been her consistent favorite, winning the nighttime sweepstakes as my daughter's most-requested reading item. That makes it a winner for dad too - a kid's book that engages and fascinates for repeat visits. But there's something a little mysterious in My Granny's Purse that defies explanation, though I think it's the peek into an adult world that is part real and partly untold that fascinates my daughter.
The ongoing appeal of My Granny's Purse is also mildly surprising given its rather minimal, aphoristic text - a text intended to be humorous in contrasting mom and granda's admonitions ("Throw that junk away" vs. "Save it for a rainy day" e.g.), with no danger that it might stir up any family conflicts (whew, please spare kids the blandness of political correctness!)
Whatever the allure of this piece - part pop-up, part toy sculpture, part reading book, part found object collection - My Granny's Purse has kept its appeal longer than anything else on our bookshelf, so now I'm getting copies for kids of friends as well. Fragile? Not really, but handle with care and apply tape where needed (only the joints are fragile, the cardboard is tough). In any case don't deny your kid a trip into the random snapshots and souvenirs of an entire adult lifetime, glimpsed in the found objects that populate the witty and intelligent "My Granny's Purse." Bottom line: my daughter loves it - she's the one giving it five stars.
Big Disappointment

My Granny's Purse was a big disapointment for me. I wish I had read the reviews of others before buying. THey are right.. it's not for a small child. I bought it for my 18mth old daughter. She didn't like it at all. The sunglasses are the only thing she played with and they broke almost instantly. It's all cardboard.. and so it's not durable. For a older child, this might work. But it doesn't have much to do really and its text doesn't have much of a point. I don't know whether this is a book or a toy but it falls short in both categories. thanks!
cute idea, but boring

i got this for my 2 yo, thinking it would keep her occupied in the vehicle...it didn't. i have to say she looked at it once and didn't care to look at it again. it is very cute, but maybe for an older child who's imagination is more active. all in all, i think it LOOKS like there's alot of stuff to do in Granny's Purse, but in reality there's not much.
Adorable

This is a durable book for any child. First my son enjoyed it and when my daughter was old enough she enjoyed it. I also loved Grandpa's brief case and Moms bag...it looks like an LL Bean bag.
Granny's Purse is full of fun!

I bought this purse for my 4 year old daughter, because it looked like so much fun. She is still enjoying the "book" six months later, which says something. Granny's purse is full of little things for little hands to try, rings to poke a finger through, glasses, hankie, a letter, and more all made out of sturdy cardboard (except the hankie is real). Each page has little phrases such as, "My mommy always tells me, 'be careful.' My granny says, 'be prepared!'"
Not what I expected

I bought this for my 15 mo. old granddaughter (obviously not the age recommended), and I was disappointed. I expected more little dodads and gadgets for her to pull out and play with. I was thinking it would be a cardboard book full of goodies, but it is definitely just a "book" and not a box of fun playthings to take in and out. She may be a little more interested in it when she gets older, but I think she will have more fun if I make up my own little purse of goodies just for her.
Great idea but....

We received this as a gift. It is a really cute idea and cleverly designed, but not very practical for little kids. It's pretty flimsy considering it's suppose to stand up to the attention of a toddler- it's only made out of cardboard. There are so many little pieces that are easily lost. Like I said- wonderful idea but you would be better off just taking an old purse and filling it up with real items- old keys, old plastic sunglasses, etc.
Another great activity book for children

Saw this book at Costco, so when invited to a child birthday party I decided to purchase it. It's very cute, and she loved it.
