Classic Movie! One of my favorite films of all times! 2008-08-19
Blade shows you what a true vampire movie is really about. Its not one of those original classic vampire tales. Its new. People who hate this movie should stick with the original tales of vampires and leave this film for others that want to open they're minds about what vampires can possibly really do. The movie is about a half human half vampire name Blade that has all the vampire's strangths and none of they're weaknesses. the plot is that Blade's mother got bitten by a vampire while being pregnant with Blade. The bite effected Blade too before they took the mother to the hospital to get the baby (Blade) out of her. Blade has another name that goes by The Daywalker. He can also stay in the sun without affecting him as long as he takes his serium everyday. While growing up someone found Blade and took him in to raise him. The founder was name Whistler. He taught Blade everything, how to make weapons, rules and so on. Blade thinks his mother is dead but he has another surprise coming to him later in the movie. His goal in this movie is to defeat his worst enemy Frost before he wreaks havic upon Earth. Also to get revenge because Blade has realized that it was Frost that sent the vampire to bite his mother. Its a half drama and half action film so don't expect a high action movie from the first Blade movie.

Blade is an instant classic and always will be, I never get tired of it. I'm not even a huge fan of vampires. But this vampire film is one of the best movies out there. Its highly recommended a rental for people who haven't seen it. But personally I think its a full price movie. One of my top 20 favorite films of all times. Wesley Snipes did a great job in Blade. After watching this again, I think this is better then Blade 2 and Blade: Trinity. Heres my other ratings for the Blade Trilogy.

Blade (5/5 stars)

Blade 2 (4/5 stars) - Interesting storyline and a lot of great action. A few bad acting scenes though. Thats the only reason Blade 2 was 4/5 stars.

Blade: Trinity (4/5 stars) - Only reason Blade: Trinity is 4 stars its because I like the short Comic Book that came with the Unrated Special Edition. Other then that the movie its self is only 3/5 stars.

Super Campy Fun.... 2008-02-10
I've been doing my own reading and retrospective on vampires over the last couple of weeks after seeing "I am Legend" with Will Smith. So I decided to go back to the iconic source. Having not read Dracula in years, I decided to read it again and began by comparing it to the contemporary (1992) movie version...Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula" starring Gary Oldman. When I initially read the story as a child, I focused more on my stereotyped "Dracula as performed by Bella Lugosi" and not Stoker's original version. Reading Stoker in the original again I was charmed by the writing style and mores of the times. It holds up well. I then watched Coppola's movie which was tarted up and sexualized for today's audience. While Oldman's over the top performance is great fun to watch, the book is so much better. And if I were Stoker, I would be turning in my grave since the movie version barely follows the book and yet is "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

I then dragged Blade out of my movie collection. It is great campy fun. The first club scene is absolutely classic and really sets the mood for the rest of the movie. This is my favorite Wesley Snipes movie and he really delivers. And I love Kris Kristofferson's dissipated, whiskey voiced as Blade's compadre. The action drags a little bit in the middle, but the end is satisfying, and the bad guy really radiates "evil bad". So you are cheering Blade to the end. Yes, I know this is a B movie, and it has nothing to do with the iconic original dracula. But if you love vampire movies, I recommend this highly. It holds up well even though it it a decade old.

"Great Modern Superhero Vampire Movie" 2007-12-06
Even though this is a bloodbath, it is sleek and stylish, and the good storyline makes this a great modern vampire movie. The superhero aspect of this is part of what makes it so good. I didn't particularly like the sequels to this, but my husband and I both loved this movie. We had to wait to watch it until the kids were in bed, since this is way too grown up for them. But we loved it, and were never really drawn to vampire movies before. This DVD is great and has something like an alternate ending, the La Magra sequence, but it actually comes a little before the true "end" of the movie. The actual end of the movie is the same as the theatrical release, which is the one I remember seeing on TV too. Even though I never really liked vampire movies, this story is so good that it makes me want to hunt down some of the comic books.

The Daywalker 2007-11-11
Blade is an excellent niche in the market of Vampire tellings and tales. Wesley Snipes plays the part of a Daywalker, a vampire that has a genetic altering which allows him to withstand sunlight and the other various nuisances that the Vamps of the night have to deal with.

Blade is heavy on imagery and action, with a cast that is also great! Kris Kristofferson and Stephen Dorff are seen early and often and their characters bring a lot of strength to an otherwise simple storyline. Snipes as a vampire hunter is superb, and his character has a nice no-nonsense approach at taking on the vamps, which are seeing a rise in power and a change in the ranks take place that could mean the end of all mankind.

The storyline that follows Dorff's character trying to decipher an ancient vampire code was well done, and added to the supporting structure that the vampires needed in order to make them feel like something more than just "humans with fangs" who suck blood. Dark and Gothic with a sense of balance in the fact that everything within the plot seems to work very well, there are no loose ends, no sub plots that go nowhere and not a single character shown that doesn't have an impact in the impending outcome of the story. Battle scenes are early and often, with a wide variety of hardware and weaponry showcased by Blade (Snipes) and the few who stand behind him and his stand against ultimate domination by the Vampires. Blade is different, and does its best to stay away from common clichés considering how often stories regarding vampires are portrayed, therefore making it somewhat unique and having rewatchable value.

Great 2007-10-11
This first installment is the best of the trilogy. Blade is the series that inspired many other 'dark-vampire' type movies that would follow for many years later but nothing tops the original bad-to-the-bone vampire killer Blade. A modern day super hero at its finest.

Outstanding movie 2007-10-03

How to kill a Vampire... 2007-09-19
1998's "Blade" features Wesley Snipes as the half-human, half-vampire defender of mankind against the predations of a secret race of vampires. As Blade, the "Day-Walker", he marries the strength and power of a vampire to the ability to walk in daylight and to wield an array of martial arts weapons and skills.

Blade is the hybrid product of a vampire's attack on his pregnant mother, kept from turning into an full-blown vampire by shots of garlic provided by his aging but cunning armorer, Whistler, played with sardonic grit and gristle by Kris Kristofferson.

Blade's nemesis is Deacon Frost, the menacing young leader of the vampires, who is hot on the trail of an ancient ritual that will make him and his tribe unstoppable. The twist, unknown to Blade, is the role he will play in the successful recreation of that ritual, and the mortal danger the ritual poses for him and for his friends. Frost cleverly draws Blade on toward a final confrontation at the site of the ritual that only one of them can survive.

"Blade" is stylish in its theatrics, as the Day-Walker tracks his prey through the darkness, the city underground and the places where vampires play. The dialogue tends to campy; the mythology behind the ritual story is muddled at best, meant only to set up the final conflict between Blade and Deacon Frost. The movie's strength is its superbly crafted action sequences, as Blade dispatches whole legions of vampires with a lethel combination of martial arts and swordplay.

This movie is recommended as a flashy and solid action thriller and an interesting twist on the vampire legend. Snipes is low-key but entirely credible and dangerous as a vampire hunter.

wesley snipes is one bad dude 2007-07-09
The more I see this movie, the more I really, really enjoy it. While the entire Blade trilogy is wonderful, like most movies, its the first of the series that is tough to beat. The sequals might be loaded with some great action and loads of other fun, but overall, its the first Blade movie that sparkles in many ways.

The great things about Blade, if you haven't seen it yet, is that its like a couple of movies in one. If you love martial arts and all out kick butt hardcore action, this is loaded with it. If you like a "good" vampire movie, this is also that. If you are into some pretty cool characters, and actors that do a fantastic job making them seem just down right cool, this is loaded with that too. Perhaps the best thing, is Wesley Snipes, who takes a hero character and adds so much toughness to him, he almost could pass for a villain, and turns out to be just one bad dude who is extremely fun to watch.

Although the film isn't filled with a lot of dialouge, I found the story to be enjoyable and very well presented. Pacing is just fantastic in this film as there is always something cool happening, and usually, its a whole lot of action. Every action scene is different, yet very well done. Choreography is great and the fights come off as looking and sounding very hardcore. Martial arts action is definetly present, and is best witnessed in a final duo between the main opponents, Deacon Frost & Blade. It is a 3 minute fight that is fast, furious, and has some seriously sweet-lookin moves.

Simply put, this movie rocks. You will feel tougher just watching it. Wesley Snipes will make you want to go work out and start learning sweet one-liners. Blade is one-of-a kind for sure, and its hard to imagine this movie will dissapoint anyone. Again, the best of the series. Production of this film is just great all around.

GREAT MARVEL COMICS MOVIE! ONE OF THE BEST! 2007-06-25
It is a shame that so many of Marvels better known characters didn't get the fantastic movie treatment that Blade did. This is one exciting movie. Wesley Snipes does a fine job as the title character. The first film is far better than the sequels, but they are all good films. This is the one to watch!

1 and 1/2 hours of my life I'll never get back 2007-05-28
dont even bother, unless you're just in it for the fashion and score (some nice techno sounds).
