The Ultimates keeps getting better and better 2008-06-05
A bit of a slow start but once it kicks in....daaaaaaaaamn. A superb book. Already ready it twice.

Ultimately good 2008-05-21
If you like Ultimates vol 1, you'll like this here too. The narration, the dialogues, the action, it is all here. But if you didn't like the first, move away from this, since it is a very similiar story.

ULTIMATES 2 2008-05-10
after the first hardcover i looked forward to this for a while. it was worth the wait and millar satisfied my every comic reading need.cool story with more colour (thats color in australian)than asgards pathway.very thick book but quick to read as it is padded with EXTRAS like marvel feel they must do just to bump up the size of the book.buy it if you are a fan of marvels ultimate line coz i loved it.

Excellent read. 2008-04-20
The joy of the graphic novel! This book encompasses the second arc of The Ultimates in a hardbound book. The story and art are from two of the best in the business. I highly recommend it, especially if you haven't been to a comic book store in a while and want to rekindle your interest. Now we only have to await Ultimates 3 in novel form, with art by Joe Mad!...In the meantime, pick this one up and be amazed at how the writer has used very modern concerns to narrate his story...

AAA: the Amazing Avengers Assemble 2008-03-09
This might be one of the best comic book packages i have ever seen. With a fantastic comic that feels like a movie but still keeps the classic comic book touches that ground it in the semi reality that is the marvel universe. The book is so cinimatic that they made 2 cartoon movies based on these comics. The book also comes with comentaries and a beautiful black hardbound cover. If you like comics you owe it to yourself to pick up the Ultimates Vol 1 and 2.

Haven't we been here before? 2008-02-12
Following up something as amazing as The Ultimates, Vol. 1 is a hard act, even with the same creative team on board, but Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch manage to live up to the high standards of the first volume.

There are two main stories going on here, the first being the exposure of the Hulk as a member of the Ultimates team, and the second being the revelation that one of the team may be a traitor.

Once again, Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch bring you the superhero movie you've always dreamed of, with tons of action and lots of amazing scenes. Millar makes sure that the characters are more than just one-dimensional muscle freaks, but real people. Between Captain America's lonleyness to Iron Man's chronic self-loathing, all of these characters have a lot of humanity.

I think the best of the characters in this book are Ant-Man/Giant-Man(Harry Pym) and Wasp(Janet Pym). Their relationship is complex and constantly defies expectations. Even though they spend most of the book apart, they have a bond that transcends physical seperation.

The one downside to this book is that it doesn't shock me the way that the first volume did. To be fair, plenty of jaw dropping things happen here, especially in the final 3 or 4 issuse. Lots of surprises, lots of action that keeps going further and further over the top.

But...if you've read volume one you know how far Millar and Hitch can go. You know how crazy it can get. And, knowing that, it is a little less surprising when things start hitting the fan. After volume one, I don't even know if it would have been possible for them to top themselves. They sure did their best, even going almost a year behind schedule to do it, but it still lacks the surprise that it had the first time.

Ultimately Excellent 2008-01-21
This second in the series picked right off where the first left off as far as quality and storyline are concerned.

Highly recommended.

Millar and Hitch create anoter masterpeice 2008-01-12
I wasn't sure if it was possible to top the first Ultimates storyline, but they certainly did with "Ultimates 2." Ultimates 2 takes the team into a fight so huge, even the Norse Gods have to join in!

Spectacular is saying it lightly 2007-12-27
Like the first incarnation of Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Ultimates, Ultimates 2 was plagued with delay after delay, and again like the first Ultimates series before it, it was more than worth the wait. Ultimates 2 picks up some time after the events of the first series, with the Ultimates being famous and fighting all of America's dirty, little wars, when suddenly, things start to crumble. It is leaked to the public that Bruce Banner is the Hulk, which results in his trial and execution, Thor warns of a traitor on the team before he is perceived as a threat and taken down, the relationship between Captain America and the Wasp is faltering, a dying Tony "Iron Man" Stark prepares to marry the Black Widow, and disgraced former member Hank Pym attempts to forge ahead on a new career as Ant-Man with a spot on the short-lived Defenders. The story really picks up in the second half of this hardcover collection, as the traitor strikes, the team is separated, and America is under attack; concluding in one of the most superbly detailed battles you will ever come across in comic book form. Mark Millar's story is loaded with well-done twists and turns, and his depictions of Thor and Hawkeye in particular are highlights here. Bryan Hitch's wonderfully detailed art is where Ultimates 2 really shines, as his illustrations are both beautiful and brutal sights to behold. All in all, The Ultimates 2 is an incredibly spectacular and satisfying conclusion to the absolute best of Marvel's Ultimate titles, and if you've never read any of Millar and Hitch's Ultimates work, you have been sadly missing out.
