Editorial Review
Wild at Heart helped men to rediscover their masculine hearts-to be the men God designed them to be. Now this small book goes a step further, encouraging fathers to pass this insight on to their children. It is not by accident, contends John Eldredge, that little boys dream of being heroes and little girls dream of being rescued by a prince. It is woven into the very fiber of the sexes. Men struggle with this most pivotal role, and Eldredge's writing is the affirmation and encouragement each man needs.
Eldredge gives fathers a look inside both themselves and their sons and daughters, encouraging them to give their children permission to be who God designed them to be.

It's never too late to begin healing.
2007-06-06
John Eldredge is the author of numerous books, including WILD AT HEART, which sold more than two million copies and was used as the guide for hundreds of men's Bible study groups. He is one of many Christians who has recognized the value of fathers in raising children, and is not afraid to identify the differences between the genders and explain how they generate different needs. Eldredge demonstrates how understanding these needs and differences is essential to raising emotionally and spiritually healthy children.
Each chapter (which includes "The Secret to Boys"; "What a Father Needs to Do"; "Healing Wounds"; and "It's Never Too Late") is only a few pages long yet is packed with the core of emotions that everyone has experienced as a result of their own relationship with their father. Whether it was wonderful and everlasting or non-existent and painful, there is no denying that the father/child relationship is perhaps the most life-shaping of all.
In an age when "Who's Your Daddy?" has become a national joke, the existence of absentee, ineffectual and abusive fathers is just beginning to reap its consequences. Boys whose needs were not met by their fathers are growing up and becoming negligent parents as well. Many believe it is these unmet needs and resulting wounded spirits that are primarily responsible for creating the angry, frustrated and rebellious youth we see today.
In his down-to-earth writing style, Eldredge uses many personal anecdotes, linking them to Scriptures that illustrate the source of his beliefs. He concludes that ultimately it is God the Father who provides the model for love and forgiveness so necessary in healthy relationships.
YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES is sure to inspire those who read it to take action in their own lives. Whether your child is four or 40, it's never too late to begin healing.

This booklet was awesome. It helped me identify some of my own issues as well as gave me guidance for raising my own children. I read it and quickly loaned it to another parent that I knew would appreciate it.
I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!!

As with every book he writes, John Eldredge hits the nail right on the head. I just bought this for my husband for Christmas and I think every father should have one in his stocking. John Eldredge has such a special gift for insight and is one of the best authors out there. This book brought me to tears over some realizations of my own father. I suggest you buy one for every father you know and make sure every mother you know reads it too.

I wish I had read this book 20 years ago! However, it's never too late to start being the father you were intended to be. This book lays it out in a most simple way. Quick read and a MUST read. You will want to order a box of these and give to all the dads you know, I did!
short but good

I skim read through the entire book in about 5 minutes. Good stuff. Just very short.
Great for Father's Day

Great advice to Fathers. I plan on giving some of these to fathers on Father's Day. The book offers pointed encouragement and guidance for fathers of all ages. It really helps young fathers who are trying to be the best dad that they can be. It is a short book that most men (who may not read alot) are willing to read.
Required reading for Dads

I have read several books dealing with the critical task of Dads raising their children. John Ortberg is a very gifted Christian writer that communicates some tremendous truths in a very small booklet. Don't let the size fool you, this book will convict you and give you some great tools to help you in your Christian walk and efforts in raising godly children.
definately worth it

I purchased this book for my boyfriend who is also my baby's daddy to be. He said that it helped him realize that all it takes is love and affection and hard work to raise a child, and i think that is what he needed to hear. overall, i would definately recommend this book for anyone who needs an extra boost of confidence before the arrival of a loved one.
Book is very small- not what I expected

This book is similar in size to a freebie handout. It was also over priced by Amazon at $4.99 when the back of the book's UPC label said that the book was priced at $2.99. I contacted Amazon and they corrected my bill immediately.
My husband really likes John Eldrege books and I think that he will enjoy the book... it was just not what I expected.
