Not a good Kindle choice 2008-08-09
This is a very good treatment of Vista, and in the paperback version I have found it helpful. The Kindle version, however, does not handle the illustrations well. I could not read the diagrams. Perhaps in an update of Kindle it will be possible to magnify and move the figures, but at present it is hopeless.

Good reference 2008-06-04
Now I have not read the book all the way through. I only use it as a reference when I can't figure something out on my own.

It has had the answer every time I needed it, so I am very impressed so far. Also bought the book on the new version of Office by the same authors and have the same thing to say about it.

Good Stuff

Good Book for Advanced Users 2008-05-31
I have read and put to work about half of this book and I'm impressed with its thorough coverage. However be aware that to fully benefit from this book you must have intermediate to advanced prior knowledge of the Windows OS. This new edition includes SP1, but I found several remnants of references to pre SP1 Vista features that were not corrected or edited. For example, the Search link was deleted from the Start Menu by SP1. Yet the book refers to this link as if it was still present. If these minor problems had been corrected I would have rated this book 5 stars.

VISTA Book 2008-02-17
This product was in excellant condition upon arrival and arrived before expected.
I have used Que Books by the same authors previously. I find these are excellent reference books.

Bargain 2008-02-06
A very comprehensive treatment which lives up to its title of the only vista book you need.A real bargain at the price.

excellent book for advance users 2007-03-15
This is the book which gives the Window users tons of information. Robert Cowart must have spent a lot of time for exploring and studying the Window Vista to write this book. He supplies most of the detail I have expected to look for. Moreover, I can learn a lot of new useful functions of Vista which I haven't thought of.
This is an excellent book for Vista users.

Time to Start Getting Ready 2007-01-08
I see in the paper today that the first 'major security flaw' was discovered in Vista. It sounds like it must be a real operating system after all.

Since Microsoft stopped issuing manuals with their software you almost have to have one of these huge books if you're going to effectively use them. The on-line support built into Vista is produced by Microsoft. It takes books like this one to point out work arounds, flaws, and generally give a third party outside the company opinion.

The biggest changes, as far as I can see, in Vista is the greatly increased attention paid to security, significantely changed Control Panel and the changed overall view and feel. Of course there is also support for a lot more features like FireWire, RAIDs, and many more, but these are of more limited interest because fewer people will have RAID or whatever hardware.

All of these features and more are discussed in this huge book. There's also an 80 minute video supplied on a CD that shows Vista in action doing a variety of things.

As of yet, I've looked over this book, reading the interesting sections, making some notes of where to go study harder. But I won't get a copy of Vista for a while so really can't tell you if I've found anything wrong or not. It reads well, the authors have a history of writing good books, and I like their writing style.
