Excellent

Excellent starter for the topic of purity. Dana Gresh nails it on the head! Excellently presented and fun visually. You will want to discuss more and deeper on the subject with your daughter as she gets older (see my rating for Before you Meet Prince Charming), but this is wonderful for younger girls and a great talking starter... Also, you may want to print the online guide she has for the modisty "test". Most of the girls we know have read this book and I don't understand how they feel skin tight clothes, with low pants, etc. is a form of purity. They think the book is excellent, but somehow, a lot of them don't see themselves in it. So, as a mom, I think guidelines are in order, and Dana has the clothing "tests" that are great!
Great food for talk

When I received a review copy of this from the publisher, I showed it to my wife and said, "Look at this--it's a book about modesty". Our daughter, then just 14 years old, grabbed it out of my hand, said "I want to read it", sat down on the floor of our kitchen, read it straight through, emailed two or three of her best friends, and let each of them read it. This sparked a year-long on-and-off conversation about relationships, attractiveness, modesty, desire, and how guys and girls think. Now that these girls are in college, we continue to have good conversations about these vital issues of life. I highly recommend this to any parents of young girls (11-14 years old), and recommend that you read it, too.
Must Have and Then Share for Teen Girls

Though many Christian dating/love related books mention modesty, none really clarify it and what it's about. This book is the much needed voice to change all that.
I think the biggest problem with modesty in a lot of Christian girls is simply unawareness of the problem. This book does an excellent job of teaching girls to protect their beauty, help their brothers in Christ not to sin, and overall giving insight into purity and saving yourself for your spouse.
Dannah is very understanding of - but it's fashion! and comes up with lots of hip and fun alternatives, but yet she's encouraging of simple jeans and tees too.
I read in another review the comment of 'the picture on the back of the book is not modest by God's standards'. Though I will not say that is untrue, none of the photos in this book are eye-catchingly unmodest and I would guess this is more of a guy needing to watch issue than the girl in the picture being so immodest.
Eye-opening, and excellent and easy to read book! You will return many times.
AWESOME!

This book is so awesome! I would give it 10 stars if I could! It has taught me lots of things about modesty. Now I have a whole new perspective on how I dress, and what it does in guys minds. This book has changed my life, and the way I dress.
good little book

small book, important message! you can read this book in like an hour, its only 90 pages long. This book is clear on how exactly to be modest and demand other's respect by respecting yourself. It talks about how modesty is not just what you wear, but how you act. You should definately buy this book.

Awesome book that was truly needed!

I truly do love this book. I saw it on the internet and ordered it, and what a blessing!! Modesty in our day in age is so rare now--even among Christians. This book was so needed, and wonderfully written. It talks not only about "dressing" modestly, but about modesty of the heart, and much more. It even showed the guy's perspective when we do dress immodestly--which really showed me A LOT! I would have not known, and it's so wonderful that Dannah wrote about it. We females need to realize what we do to the men around us when we dress immodestly. Especially Christian men. We think it looks good, but we forget about the men around us and the struggles going on in their minds. What an eye opener!
It not only talks about that dressing modestly is because God tells us to and it pleases Him when we do, but she explains that the Bible tells us that we are only to "intoxicate" one man with our beauty and the deepest secrets of our bodies. And when we dress immodestly, we allow "many" men to lust after us, which is sin.
There's much more I could say about this book, it is so wonderful! I have found myself reading it over and over again. It is easy to read, yet packed with tons of great info that all Christian and non-Christian females need to hear.
Every female should read this book!
Empowering women
2005-11-22
I bought this book as a gift, but when I began flipping through it, I quickly became skeptical. I am in full support of encouraging young women to respect themselves. I desire to see young women today accept themselves and embrace their power. However, teaching young girls that their purpose in life is to find one man to love and care for, is a big step backwards. I also firmly believe there is no excuse for a man stalking or sexually harassing a girl. The suggestion that these things happen because the girl did not pray while getting dressed that day, or the idea that by saying a prayer we can know for certain what God intended in the grey issues in the Bible is outrageous. If you are looking for a book that will encourage intellectual thinking, spiritual growth, independant decisions and confidence in a young woman's life - this is NOT the book.
Great for teens!

This book is really good. A lot of times books that talk about modesty overlook the heart issue completely. There is so much more to modesty than what you wear. This book does a good job at bringing that out.
It also has a positive tone, which is very rare as well. I like that it is realistic and offers practical solutions. For example getting guys undershirts. It is true that it's hard to find shirts that are long enough and this is a practical solution. Something that girls feel like they can actually do. This is a great book!
Good when compared to the world's standards, but falls short of God's
2005-11-04
When you compare secret keeper's standard of modesty to the world's standards, it sounds pretty good. But just because a lady dresses "better" than the world's standards doesn't mean her clothes are modest. (The other reviewer was right, the picture on the back would probably not be considered modest because it draws men's eyes away from her face to her legs.)
You see, the real standard is God's--does what I wear cause my brother in Christ to stumble? (Luke 17:2) If it does, it isn't modest. Period. The author clearly underestimates what can cause her brother's in Christ to stumble.
Basically, she improves on what the world offers to Christian young ladies and that's why I gave her 2 stars, but the standard she presents in the book falls short of God's.
