Great book!

My son (3 years old) loves this book. It also helped me to convince him that toothbrushin' is cool because pirates do it! Go and get this wonderful book!
Gold!

I bought this for my son's 4th birthday. It was a pirate party and this book had all the kids enchanted.
A little disappointing

I bought this book for my 4-year-old son who loves pirates. Although the illustrations are beautiful and it is a cute story it just did not grab his attention. And he, uncharacteristically, was frightened by the fire-breathing dragon. I would recommend "How I Became a Pirate" (which has a better story line) over this book to any pirate-lovers.
Its all about the treasure

I enjoy this pirate tale as much as my son enjoys having me read it to him every night. The story is humerous and full of suprises with more text in it's 40 pages than your average picturebook. The illustrations are wonderful, colorful, and inspiring. Pirate Pete and his poor parrot travel from Candy Island, to Dragon Island, to Mermaid Island looking for treasure to plunder. The way the art is presented is witty and different. The suprise ending is a big hit with kids. Buy this one if you like pirate tales for kids, you won't regret it.
Where there's gold, I'm a-goin

This is a great book! My 6 year old recieved his book in May of 2002 and he knows this book by heart. My son is very involved with pirates and this hits the spot with great adventure that any 6 year old would enjoy. We need more great pirate books, with great illustration from Doug and Kim Kennedy. Highly recommend this book!!
Shiver me timbers, buy this book!

My oldest started with this series at 2, he will be 3 soon. He asks to be read at least one of these books daily. He insists on being Pirate Pete for Halloween and Mardi Gras. The stories are cute and he looks through his hand like a spyglass when looking for the Seafairy Sapphire in the Giant Adventure title. He is always engrossed in every page.
The illustrations are gorgeous. We can not wait for the next title.
Excellent Reading.

Read this book to my child and he loved it and really got involved in it. Certainly is a great fun read for both you and your child/ren.
Inspiring

Yup, you heard me:Inspiring. I based an entire one week/half day summer camp off of this book. I loved the idea of being a pirate and visiting different islands looking for gold even though the X wasn't on those islands. I loved that the candy islanders took good care of their teeth. We came up with games for each island, craft and snack to accompany it and the kids were entertained all week based off this story. The only thing I did NOT like about it is the "Gleaming Booty" I knew I could not read this to my class of 3-5 year olds without them missing the point. I also didn't like that the pirate at the beginning of the story STOLE the map from the queen and that at the end of the story he didn't learn his lesson. But theres a lot to be said for the creativity, the illustration of the maps, the ideas and wording...it inspired me to do an entire camp based on it.
my grandsons favorite book

I bought this book for my 7 year old grandson who is into pirates. He liked it very much. After reading it several times with him I could see why. I purchased one to use at work as a tool when tutoring reading. This has become one of the most beloved books.
