Honors for Grow Up!:
2004 CCBC (Cooperative Children's Book Center) Choices selection

2003-06-02At this age, my daughter is beginning to grasp the concept of little to big. It's a lot of fun to see her apply what she has learned from Grow Up! to the world around her. She is currently fascinated with differentiating babies and big girls, and from the number of times I have had to clean her kisses and nose prints off the book she obviously can't get enough of being a "big girl."
My daughter and I love the illustrations in this book (as with all of them); they are vivid, playful and clever. We have had a lot of fun making up silly guesses as to what is on the next page, and although we have read the book a couple hundred times now, she still gets excited to turn the page and announce what the image has grown up to be.
I would recommend this book concept-wise for children over eighteen months, but because there is so much to look at and talk about in the book I would also highly recommend it for any age.
Grow Up

This is a nice board book that introduces children to growing up. A kitten becomes a cat, a caterpiller a butterfly. Nice art work and children love it!
Author of "Hobo Finds A Home"
Another great book from Laden

My 10-month-old daughter loves this book almost as much as Peek-A-Who. The pictures are attractive, and the cut-outs are fun for her to grab. My two-year-old daughter likes it, too, because she enjoys learning about what the different animals grow up to be. (For instance, she didn't previously know that a baby frog is a tadpole.) I highly recommend this book.
Great book for 6 months & up

My 9 month old really enjoys this book and the way the pictures change from a kitten to a cat... puppy to a dog... and so on.
It's no Puppy Peek-a-Boo, but still a great board book

My daughter LOOOOOOVES Puppy Peek-a-Boo with illustrations by Lisa McCue. I was searching for other peek-a-board books and found this one, which was highly recommended by other parents. It's good, and she does like it - we got it when she was just under 1 year old, and her appreciation of it has grown as she has gotten just a bit older (she's nearly 15 months now). I think it would be ideal for children 2 or older.
My only reason for not giving it 4 stars is that I don't think it's on par with Puppy Peek-a-Boo (which sounds so ridiculous as I write this, but it's true). That book has such incredible illustrations and so many little hidden surprises and details that allow readers to find new things each time. This is much different.
I have not found anything in the board book realm to equal Puppy Peek-a-Boo, but as board books go, this one is very good (as is Peek-a-Who? by the same author).
two thumbs up for grow up

We own "Peek-a-Who", "Ready, Set, Go" and "Roberto, the Insect Architect" also written by Laden, and we LOVE them all. This one is just as good. As we turn each page, our boys hopefully anticipate what creative and fun illustration they'll see next. The books read so fluidly and easily that my little boys (1,3,5 yrs old) memorize the words and rhyme along with us as we read them. We have given these books as gifts every year for Christmas and birthdays and the recipients have equally enjoyed them. I typically recycle books(out with the old and in with the new) but these are in our collection to stay.
