Customer Reviews
We bought several books in this series before I realized I just don't like them that much
2008-08-10
Can't fault the art, it's a great way to introduce kids to Renoir.
And the text... well, I can take it or leave it. It sounds trite to my ears, though, so I prefer to leave it. The author's got a tin ear when it comes to rhythm, nothing seems to scan right.
The really bad part about these books is that they're cheaply made. I've had them fall apart on me while other books that we've had longer and that we read more often are in great shape.
You can't have a poor-quality board book, it just doesn't work. I can't in good conscience recommend these books until that little problem is fixed.
Great Book

I love reading this book to my five month old twin girls. They love looking at the pictures.
Great book!

This book, more than any of the others in Julie Merberg's "masters" series (with the exception of "Quiet Time With Cassatt"), focuses on paintings of people. This would be great for the youngest of readers since babies tend to like seeing faces of other children.
I have to say the paintings in this book are just gorgeous. This is a great introduction into a lifelong love of art. Along with this one, I would have to recommend Cassatt, Van Gogh, and Degas as the best of the series.
An Art Lover's Must Have

I love sharing this and all the books in this series with my daughter. It is a great indroduction to the arts. She has a favorite painting/page that she will turn to everytime we read the book. I am thrilled that she is learning who these great masters are years before I ever did.
Excellent Introduction to Fine Art
2006-08-17
I love how Merberg and Bober pair beautiful works of art by well-known artists with cute little stories. This books are not only good for introducing little tots to fine art, but they are enjoyable for the parents also!
We have at least five of their books, and my son, now that he is one loves to page through them and look at the pictures.
Enjoyable and sweet

Set against the backdrop of well-known works by the artist, Auguste Renoir, rhyming text tells a story from the artwork.
