where did I come from? 2008-03-23
Fantastic book - simple & easy to read. My son looked through the pictures without getting "oohhhh gross" look on his face. Sweet and educational!

WOW. Porn for kids? 2008-03-20
This book is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too detailed for kids. They don't need step by step instruction on how sex is done. I am sorry I bought this book. I will not be using it to talk to my daughter. I am unsure as to what I am going to do/use, but it won't be this book. Seriously, I was shocked. Not good, and I am not a prude. There just has to be a better way to explain it to kids without traumatizing them!

Wonderful Introduction to Sex 2008-03-09
Frankly, I'm shocked by the negative reviews this book has received! I can't imagine what is going on in those reviewers' minds that they think a sweet book like Where Did I Come From? is "too graphic" or "written for a pedophile." There's nothing wrong with describing sex as pleasurable, because in the context of a loving, monogamous relationship (which is how the book depicts sex) it should be pleasurable!

I received this book when I was four or five and I found it absolutely fascinating! I enjoyed looking at all the pictures, especially the ones of the fetus developing inside the mother's womb. The illustrations of the couple also reminded me of my parents, so I was comfortable with that, as well, and the concepts of sex, pregnancy, and birth didn't seem alien or scary.

I think Where Did I Come From? is just informative enough and I will buy it for my own children when they are four or five. I read the book and loved it, but I didn't go out and try to have sex at a young age and, in fact, have only had two sex partners, one of whom is my husband, and I have always practiced safe sex.

Besides, young children do experience sexual feelings and many pre-K and Kindergarten teachers catch their students - both male and female - masturbating from time to time! Where Did I come From? will also help them understand those feelings and not feel ashamed of them when mom, dad, or teacher has to tell them that they should only "do that" in private.

A little embarassing.... 2008-02-21
My 10 year old daughter received this book from my mother-in-law who brought a box of books that were my husband's when he was a child. Her first reaction was "Ewwww! Sick!" Then came a round of rather embarrassing questions including her asking my husband if he puts sperm in me to which he quickly referred her to me! Eeek! My husband and I got a kick out of the comparison of an orgasm resembling a sneeze!

A little too much information... 2008-02-08
I purchased this book to use when discussing "the birds and the bees" with my 8 year old daughters. I chose this one based on a recommendation by the authors of another book and the reviews at Amazon.com. After I received it, I knew that it was just a little bit too revealing in certain areas and decided not to use it. It seems like a great book, however; sometimes too much information before they are ready is not a good thing. I think I may keep it and share it with them when they are a bit older, perhaps when we discuss puberty, etc. in a couple of years.

Classic for small children 2008-07-04
This book is a classic for explaining the birds and the bees to small kids. It's illustrated in a cartoony, friendly style and explains sex in a way that's comprehensible from a child's point of view. I don't think it crosses the line of what an average parent would consider "too much information".

The couple depicted are slightly chubby and middle-aged, quite the stereotype of a mummy and daddy. On one page they are standing together nude and smiling at the reader. On the page that explains sexual intercourse, they're under the blankets, so don't worry about kids seeing too much. Sex is explained as being like "skipping rope" - it feels good but you get too tired to do it forever! Sounds funny from an adult's perspective but I guess it's a good way to explain to a small child why grown-ups like it.

The book also explains fertilization down at the cellular level (the endpapers feature a cartoon egg being presented with a rose by a sperm) and pregnancy and childbirth in brief.

I read the book around age 5 or 6. My parents didn't want to have to explain this stuff face-to-face and I was an early reader =)

Good, but maybe too graphic... 2008-06-23
I got the movie and book as a "pack" after our 5 year old asked about sex and babies. Yes SEX and babies....horrifying thought isn't it.

I enjoyed how it explained what really happens to make a baby. How it takes a man and a woman, sperm and eggs etc. And I liked how they used "LOVE" in a lot of it. It was all about the man and the woman loving each other. :)

What I could have done with out was the detail about sex.

To me they just went a little to far...I would have left it at the man and woman are naked and very close to each other...end of story.

The book however goes into detail about the man putting his penis into the woman's vagina and wiggling around. Then explains how it has the same feeling as being tickled. Its one thing to know that "sex" is the reason babies are made, but not a manual for how it's done. Luckily in the book you can skip over it (until they learn to read anyway.)

I think this is a good way to introduce a child to sex and babies, but even better when they are younger and you can add your own morals to the story. (Marriage (which is not mentioned), God for people who are religious etc).

The best 30 years ago... now just ok 2008-06-09
This is the book that my mom read to me when I began to ask about sex. However, we ordered this and "It's So Amazing" and opted to use the latter to discuss sex with our seven year old. "It's So Amazing" has a more biological approach and that is what our daughter was most curious about. Also, I felt that the other book was more comprehensive and will be a valuable asset in the continued discussion.

great for the birds and the bees talk 2008-04-30
This totally helps out with covering all of the details with your child when it comes time to talking about SEX. Very helpful!
