Editorial Review
Monica wants the moon to play with, so her Papa sets out to get it. It isn't easy to climb to the moon, but he finally succeeds -- only to find the moon is too big to carry home. Children will love the joyful way in which this problem is solved.

Now available as a Classic Board Book edition, this delightful story literally unfolds as pages open dramatically, extending both outward and upward.

cute book 2008-01-21
this book is very small - about 5" x 7". the pages unfold in creative ways and the story is cute. beautiful illustrations.

great preschooler story but not made for toddlers 2008-01-15
My 4 year old daughter has requested this book for her bed time story for about 2 months straight. It is a wonderful Eric Carle book - in terms of artwork and story, and as a bonus it touches on the reality of the phases of the moon, and the great lengths a father will go to please his daughter. Plus it has some cool fold-out elements of the pages. What more could you want? Well, you might want a book that is a little bigger (it's 4x5 inches) and a little more sturdy (the pages are made out of oak-tag thickness). This book definitely will not hold its own against a toddler. I recommend waiting until your child is 4 or 5, when he/she will not tear the book apart in a minute, and when they are old enough to discuss some of the elements of the story.

papa, please get the moon for me 2008-01-14
This is a wonderful book that children ages 3 and up will certainly enjoy. The fold out illustrations are beautiful.

Papa, Please Get Me the Moon 2008-01-12
Very diapppointed. Cheap, tiny little book, not even a board book which I thought I was buying. This is not up to Eric Karl's usual standards. It looked like something that you would buy at the "Dollar Store".

Not one of his best 2008-01-11
This book is very sweet, but it isn't as catchy as some of his better ones. Very little kids definitely won't like it as much as The Very Hungry Caterpillar (holes to put their tiny fingers through), and the fold out part is vulnerable to toddler damage.

Small; story disappointing 2008-07-18
This book was much smaller than I expected (I bought the hardcover edition). It's about the size of my hand. The story disappointed me too. It starts out fine, but you're left hanging at the end. I don't think I'd have bought it if I had read it in the store.

SYNOPSIS
Monica sees the full moon, asks Papa to get it. Papa gets long ladder, goes to moon. Moon is too big; moon tells Papa to wait. Papa waits until moon is smaller, brings it to Monica. Monica plays with the moon. "But the moon kept getting smaller and smaller and smaller and finally it disappeared altogether. Then one night, Monica saw a thin sliver of the moon reappear. Each night the moon grew... and grew and grew..." That's how it ends -- with a two page illustration of the full moon.

Good book - but with a few small caveats 2008-06-26
This is a short story about a girl who wants to play with the moon, sending her dad to get it. We go through a half a month until the moon is small enough to take home, and then it disappears - but it comes back in the sky in the next half a month.

Several of the pages have fold-outs of some sort, most noticeably the big spread where the full moon talks to Monica's father. These fold-outs are a little delicate, possibly too delicate for the small hands who expect to use board books. You might want to wait until your child is older and then simply get the bigger, non-board edition.

Unlike some commenters here, I have an actual board book, with the same ISBN as listed. I don't know what happened with their books.

Love this book! 2008-04-28
I originally picked up this book because my daughter, 2, calls her dad "papa" rather than "daddy" and I thought it would be fun even though it seemed a little ahead of her. Let me tell you, she can't get enough of this book! She LOVES it and she gets the story. She's just 2 as in 24 months old, and she sees the moon outside now and asks her papa for it. I love it and highly recommend this book to anyone!

Teeny tiny book, cute message 2008-04-11
This book is really small!
Cute, but if you are getting it for a toddler they may need some supervision to make sure the pages don't get torn.
Also a bit expensive for what you are getting..

Another excellent book by Eric Carle 2008-02-03
This book is among my daughter's favorites. She is nearly two years old and has already dog-eared and torn some pages, she literally has enjoyed the book to pieces. This has turned out to be a perfect book for her because she absolutely loves the moon. Seattle winter's don't offer many opportunities for even glimpses of the moon. It's also about a girl and her papa which is something nice for my husband to share with her. Don't expect this book to physically withstand the curious hands of infants. It's not tough like a board book!
