Great Book 2006-06-28
When my 9 year old daughter started asking me questions about her body, I knew it was time for the talk. But I wanted to be prepared so I searched and searched for just the right book. I didn't want to get into SEX or male organs (that's a whole different talk). We really bonded by reading this book and discussing it together. She is now well informed about the changes that she will be going thru. This is a great book and perfect for younger girls.

Great for Young Girls 2005-10-24
My daughter is nine... I wanted something that would help her with "the basics" without getting into too much detail about sex. I was looking for something that would focus on HER body and how she is feeling... this book did that perfectly!

Exactly what I've been looking for..... 2005-09-13
This book will be perfect for my 9 yr old and I to use as we discuss her next few years. It is so clear and written at a level she will surely understand. I have read MANY MANY books but they all mesh this topic in along with topics which are too old for a 9 yr old. However three of her friends have already started so she needs to be informed now.

As everyone has mentioned the text and drawings are very clear. I was afraid I would have to sketch things out for her - but not now since it's all here. The more teenage topic is quickly referenced on two separate pages in this book - but if she asks I will just say it's for a later discussion. I will be using this book along with Nancy Rue's "The Body Book, It's a God Thing". Both of these books are very well suited for a 9 yr old.

I passed on "The Care and Keeping of You" and "Ready, Set, Grow" for adding in too much information that young girls don't need at ages 9 or 10.

Good for youngersters 2004-11-03
My mother checked this out from the libaray when I was nine years old. I thought the idea was pretty scary but I got used to it. What's funny is my mom wanted me to hide it from my sister, and my sister didn't know how to read then.

But anyway this book is very appropiate.

A wonderful book for young women. 2004-10-10
This book explains menstruation in simple and medically acurate terms. It does not perpetuate any negative myths about menstruation either. I was very happy to see the section on alternative menstrual products, and also happy that it addressed the dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

This book answers all the normal questions about menstruation, but it also gives great examples about how different every woman's body is and enforces the idea that being different is normal.

I highly suggest getting this book for young women to learn about menstruation.

Period 2008-03-07
I thought the book was well written. My daughter is 8 1/2 and was very interested about the subject of Menstruation. We read it together and I felt it gave her all the information about growning up without the "sex" part.

Good, but not as fun to read as others 2007-10-07
I purchased this book for my 12 year old daughter. It is an informative book with some monochromatic illustrations. I also purchased "Ready, Set, Grow". My daughter's opinion is that "Ready, Set, Grow" was an easier reading style, more colorful and more fun to read. I have to agree with her. I also enjoyed reading the other book more than this one.

I would recommend this book, but if you're only going to buy ONE book, I'd recommend "Ready, Set, Grow".

Perfect for my daughter 2007-10-05
I bought this for my daughter - it was perfect. I didn't want a book on growing up or how to date. Just this one subject. My daughter is small for her age and also a bit immature due to some hearing problems when she was younger. So all of her friends have already hit this milestone. This book was great and helped her tremendously. We talked and talked about her first period, but being able to look at the book over and over again really helped her. She has now hit this milestone and survived it just fine! A great book and highly recommended.

Excellent Help 2007-06-09
This book is very simple and straightforward. I read it before I gave it to my ten-year-old daughter and it really touches on points that I didn't think to touch on with my daughter. My daughter read it and she loved it. She said it made her realize that she is normal and that everything she's thinking and feeling is NORMAL. It didn't give her so much information that she was overwhelmed and confused either. It simply goes through what is happening to her body now and nothing more. Thanks for a great guide!

Wish I'd read it sooner! 2007-03-07
My mother got this book for my younger sisters when I was 14 or 15, long after I'd started my period. But I still learned a lot from it. Reading accounts of how different girls/young women felt about their menstrual cycle was especially reassuring, since I felt "weird" about how painful and heavy mine was compared to that of other girls my age. I wish my mother had bought it for me when I was much younger, since I had many misconceptions about what a period was! A very subtle yet readable book, without "gross" pictures (has simple sketches instead). I also like that it doesn't talk down to young girls as if they're "just kids"; has a very respectful, reassuring tone that delivers what you need to know about your period when you're in middle school or junior high. Doesn't get into sex ed at all, so you can save that info for another book!
