Editorial Review
Shapesville is a small town where five friends of various shapes, sizes, colors, and talents discuss their differences and celebrate what makes each of them unique. Simple, rhyming verse and bold, playful illustrations of basic shapes and colors introduce these charmers: red rectangle Robbie, yellow circle Cindy, blue square Sam, orange diamond Daisy, and green triangle Tracy. These endearing characters show that “it’s not the size of your shape or the shape of your size, but the size of your heart that deserves first prize.” Questions at the end encourage discussion of these characters and what they mean.

Wish I had this when I was young....
2008-05-29
I bought this book for my 3 year old daughter. I want her to love herself no matter what size or shape she is. I have struggled with loving myself all of my life. I want her to be happy and positive, not constantly worrying about how people look at her.
Picture Book For 1st Grade through 5th Grade, anti-bias
2008-03-20
I recently read this book to my 5th Grade students in an anti-bias class. The students really enjoyed it, and we had an excellent post discussion plus a written reflection. I highly recommend this book for teachers looking for picture books on body image for anti-bias curriculum.
Promote a healthy self image

I bought this book on recommendation from a friend. My 4 year old daughter loves it and so do I. The message promotes a healthy self image and teaches that each person is uniquely created and it's OK to be different from others. It's a fun read- aloud book, yet it teaches a profound message. I appreciate the discussion questions at the end. What a great idea!
A fun story line which celebrates unusual friendships and individual attributes

Erica Neitz illustrates an engaging story by Andy Mills and Becky Osborn of a small town where five very different friends of different shapes, sizes, colors and talents. The rhyming verse of Shapesville lends to the celebration of characteristics which make them unique in a fun story line which celebrates unusual friendships and individual attributes.

Where was this book when I was growing up?
2003-11-26
At last a book that allows kids to be comfortable about their bodies, regardless of their shape. It also conveys to kids that there are many routes (musical, artistic, academic, athletic)to become stars. Imagine kids accepting other kids because of their variety of talents and the content of their character. The image makers in Hollywood are not going to like this. As a school principal, I cannot wait to get this book into the hands of my guidance counselors. This is a "must read" for anyone over the age of five.
Reaches Out To Kids On An Important Subject Matter
2003-11-05
Every child should know that they are special, unique and a treasure. Sometimes those thoughts are clouded by self-doubt, poor body image and low self-esteem. With the help of books like "Shapesville", maybe children will grow up strong and confident. This book takes a really important and difficult subject matter and brings it back down to the child's level.
Without a doubt --- Shapesville is a tool for discussion and conversation. This should be required reading for all young people. Great debut by really strong writers. The illustrations were really creative and I think that this book is full of great talking points. Recommended Very Highly!!!!!
Wonderful.

It's Great

I bought this book for my neice and she loves it. There were no books on this subject for her reading level until now. I am very happy that someone has finally realized the need for a book addressing younger kids. I can't wait to see more books out there addressing this issue. Whoever these people are, they really know how to reach kids! I think is book is great.
