Editorial Review
Based on the belief that every child has a right to participate in a variety of art experiences appropriate to the child's needs and interests, this resource guide offers visual art activities developed specifically for children with autism, Asperger Syndrome and other pervasive developmental disorders who are served in a variety of settings. Focusing on the inherent strenghts and needs of children with these exceptionalities, the book stimulates the senses through manipulation and exploration, arouses curiosity and creativity and develops a sense of mastery. Activities are grouped by primary modality for ease of use. An introductory page to each activity gives background information about the sense, lists vocabulary and related concepts, basic objectives, and required materials. Easy-to-follow step-by-step procedures are illustrated by line drawings. Recommended for parents and educators alike.

best as a resource for teachers 2002-05-20
I bought this book hoping to find activities to do with my child at home. I ended up giving it to his classroom teacher. Its good, but its better suited for a teacher who wants to do some art activities in the classroom.

Helpful resource. 2000-09-04
Each activity is headlined with which senses the activity is meant to stimulate, which is helpful in writing lesson plans, etc. I did not find the ideas especially novel, but it is a good collection altogether.

A practical and useable book! 2000-04-01
A great resource for teachers of children with Asperger Syndrome and autism! It is fun for both adults and children.

A Must Have for Educators 2000-04-01
As an autistic support teacher, I have found this book to be an excellent resource and an integral resource when planning lessons. It provides objectives, adaptions, extension activities, and explanations of sensory benefits. In addition, the materials required for these activities are common objects that are very easily obtained. This book is a must have for anyone working to help individuals with autism achieve success.
