Weakest in Series by Far
2004-09-19
Not completely terrible, some laughs are in there but overall it is MUCH less funny than any of the previous books in the series (of which I own and love all). Some really lame and cliche jokes appear in this one. It lacks the cleverness of the the writing in the others and has crazy things happen for the sake of crazy things happening without being very funny about them.
Skip this one, wait to see if they get back in their groove.
Hee hee... "work the parapet"...

If you're a super-geekin' comic-book/collectible-toy/Cult-TV-&-Movie/Pop-Culture fanboy who's up on your knowledge of comic books/toys/Cult TV shows & movies/ pop culture (you'll need it to understand many of the references thrown about)-- and you're into sick and juvenile humor-- and you're not easily offended-- more 'n' likely you'll find what'cher lookin' for (and then some) in this latest collection of Twisted ToyFare Theatre episodes culled from the pages of ToyFare magazine. Yep, there ain't nothin' like playthings saying and doing very wrong things to help me get my laugh on and momentarily forget what a sad, empty, and conjugal-companion-free existence I lead...
Within the pages of this particular volume you'll find out how Doctor Octopus becomes a member of the Mile-High Club, as well as the gerbil-juggling, er, talents of the, er, lefty-batting Northstar on 'Ultimate Idol'. BTW Northstar also gets his very own one-page ad in this tome for 'Maltoids: Bi-Curiously Strong Mints'. Then there's the part where the Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman aims to break Jenna Jameson's record-- um, whatever THAT means, heh. Then there's the 'Jews Gone Wild' video ("I'm eatin' lobster!") that pops up in one panel. But these oh-so-wrong vignettes are nothin' compared to the scene on page 11 where the Sandman is getting some, er, much-appreciated attention at the beach from Cap's Kenny-like sidekick Bucky. This moment is the book's lowest (and funniest) point, and is sure to get your parents to kick you out of the basement should they ever come 'round to reading it. To paraphrase Spidey on page 77, it's like "seeing something you can't unsee".
Also thrown in for fun are profiles of TTT's various characters, including the incessantly sloshed Iron Man and the highly jingoistic and extremely, er, closeted Captain America. Rounding things off is TTT's Hall of Shame, featuring the show's most tasteless gags and biggest production blunders. Oh yes, and Stan Lee wrote the intro to this volume, which I read about halfway through before I realized that I didn't give two doots about what he thinks of TTT. "Excelsior" THIS, Stan...
