Well Worth The Money

I used to read TTT in Toyfare itself - they were always pretty funny. I didn't realize they did these until I was at a comic convention in Nov 2005. Picked it up and read it in about a week - very funny and well worth it. I agree with the first reviewer about the "Slideshows". They never really got me laughing, but the rest is comic gold. Since picking up this guy I have been working my way through the other 7 volumes available. I just started #1 and so far so good. If this was $25 I'd say NO WAY, but at $12 it is worth every cent.

Yikes... the writers of "Twisted ToyFare Theatre" appear to be runnin' out of steam, seein' as how TTT volume 6 is just as hit-and-miss with the yuks as its immediate predecessor was (TTT vol. 5, available at www.amazon.com/gp/product/0974325384). Some of the TTT running jokes are startin' to show their age, like the two- page blind joke where Mego Daredevil buys a car (pp. 80-81). And the Godzilla-Gamera "showdown in "Annoy All Monsters!" (pp 64-70) had so much potential. Oh well, ya can't win `em all...
And, seriously, they gotta give up on the "Slideshows" (sprinkled throughout the book), where they take stills from a notable cartoon show (in this instance, "G.I. Joe", "Wheeled Warriors", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", and "Spider-Man"), and try to make a funny comic-strip-style adventure out of the stills. Only problem is, I've never found any of ToyFare's "Slideshows" the least bit amusing, and the bunch featured in this tome is no exception. BTW TTT promotes the SlideShows as "remastered cartoons done stupid"... and, boy, are they! Only problem is, they're not stupid in a funny way, they're just plain stupid. Anyhoo, what ToyFare should do is bring back "Side Show", which involved non-Mego figures saying very wrong things. At least those were funny some times...
On the upside: there were enough truly hilarious moments to make TTT V6 pretty good one-off reading. Such moments as Captain America reminiscing over previous... um, dalliances ("Oh yeah... pledge allegiance to THAT!"). Or the two "Star Wars" vignettes, including the "Star Wars 4.5/Star Trek III" crossover "Nobody Does it Vader", and Mego Spidey's takedown of "Star Wars Episode III" ("Sith Sandwich"). And Mego Daredevil taking Ben Affleck to court over Affleck's portrayal of "The Man Without Fear!" in "The Daredevil's Advocate" had its moments, in spite of the somewhat tiresome blind jokes. It also helps that this particular feature features "Night Court's" Bull Shannon as the bailiff. Man, did I love "Night Court" back in the day. Still do, actually...
Bottom line: you'd do well to borrow this from a fellow geekin' fanboy buddy and give it a read before you consider plunkin' down the twelve-ninety-nine cover price plus sales tax for it. It's decent one-off reading, but not quite good enough to be a keeper for my book shelf...
