Great role model for breast feeding moms!
2008-11-03
I am a first time mom of one child. I read along to help get tips as I learned to breast feed.
I found everything extremely helpful. Although her strong stance may have bothered some reviewers, I felt that this pro-breastfeeding book exemplified her passion for breastfeeding and its benefits. I think anyone that has breastfed a child would probably encourage others to at least give it a try! Many women cannot breastfeed due to circumstances beyond their control and should not feel badly about that. I know that was not the author's intentions! You need to do what is best for your baby based on the situations you are faced with.
Her perseverance to make breastfeeding successful kept me motivated. It was not an easy start and there were alot of factors against me. I felt that if she could do it with twins, I can certainly try my best to do it with one baby!
5 1/2 months and still breastfeeding my twins....
2008-09-17
I found this book very helpful. I am a mom of 4 boys - and exclusively breastfed my first two boys for one year each. When I found out I was pregnant w/ twins I was nervous thinking I would not be able to nurse them. I heard about April's book - and bought it. The book helped me so much and made me realize I can breastfeed them - and I have been doing great for 5 1/2 months now. It was just what I needed to give me the courage to nurse the two of them. I found a position that worked well for me - one in cradle hold and one in football hold - and loved the hint about putting them down on the couch, sitting in between them...and being able to get them latched on w/o help. I don't think I would have figured that out by myself. There are so many other good hints - about starting solids...and different stages of the first year and what to expect. I still reference the book often and recommend it. Thanks to April I'm saving a ton of money on formula (spending on diapers and wipes is enough)...and Maxx and Mason are getting the best nutrition I can give them.
Great Book! Just What the Babies Ordered!
2008-09-05
Thanks, April for writing a great book for those MOMs (Mothers of Multiples) who desire to give their babies the best possible start! You've packed the information, motivation and encouragement needed to be successful all into one convenient space. You've shown that all of us can provide this strong emotional advantage and nutritionally superior beginning to our children.
Independently minded women are given the tools to "get it done". By following your essential elements: obtain a great lactation consultant; get lots of rest; maintain quality nutrition; drink plenty of fluids; build a solid support system; and keep that strong motivation; we don't need to be 'super-moms' to be successful breastfeeding moms.
We need a strong advocate for breastfeeding in public! Thank You! I love your suggestion to critics that perhaps they'd enjoy their own dinner more in a public bathroom...Society is bombarded by images of women's breasts in so many 'unflattering' situations. I applaud MOMs who chose to provide natural nutrition, discretely, in public.
You've offered solid encouragement, even to MOMs of preemies, through your explanation of how marvelously adaptive our bodies are at making just what our babies need! I didn't know that breast milk of pre term babies' MOMs is actually higher in calories, protein, and fat....just what the "babies ordered!"
not worth it
2008-08-23
This book was not worth the money. If you've had a child before, this book will not include much extra information about having twins than when you had one child.
Good tips, but closed minded
2008-08-18
I found that this book did offer a few good tips w/ breastfeeding twins, but whenever formula was mentioned it was bad mouthed. Called formula sludge, I think not. I read the book to get the good tips, but I am really regretting buying it. If you are a person who is just breastfeeding then this might be for you. I felt guilty everytime I gave my boys formula when I ran out of milk while reading this book.
definately buy!!

Good on breastfeeding, stay away from sleep
2008-05-16
I found this book quite helpful for tips on breastfeeding twins - though not so useful for those of us with toddlers at home. Most of her ideas really aren't practical if you have another child to care for. In addition, I was quite bothered with the sections on sleep, and feel she should have remained on the breastfeeding topic instead. I strongly disagree with leaving your babies to cry to sleep, and can attest to the fact that a child will indeed learn to go to sleep without being left to cry at such a young age.
Wonderful!

This book is a must have for any mother expecting multiples and planning on breastfeeding. April offers research based advice along with appropriate personal situations. Women will feel more empowered after reading the book and will come away with a CAN DO attitude.
Necessary reading for any parent (or parent-to-be)
2007-10-29
My wife and I found this book an essential resource for pregnancy, nutrition and breastfeeding. The readable, down-to-earth language combined with pictures and examples from the author's own experiences made this an enjoyable and informative read. I would highly recommend this book to any expectant parents, no matter how many little ones they expecting! The nutrition facts alone make this book a steal.
Highly Recommended for Childbirth/Lactation Educators and Parents-To-Be of Multiples
2007-10-13
Many do not believe it is even possible to breastfeed multiples. April not only successfully nursed her twins for 12months+, she documented her journey to share with health professionals and parents-to-be of multiples in this professionally written text. As a Registered Dietitian, April shares her vast knowledge of nutrition in helping to explain the importance of breastmilk in a newborn's diet. Throughout April's journey she stresses the importance for great support, a positive attitude, and a whole lot of patience to help master the most challenging and rewarding job a new mother can take on: the art of breastfeeding. I highly recommend this to moms-to-be of multiples, educators, and healthcare professionals too. Shellie Sparrow, RN,BSN, Childbirth/Lactation Educator
