Multiple storylines that are all good

I thoroughly enjoyed Vol 1. The world is out of the Crisis, so they think, and the big 3 are all missing...Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. With these three gone and countless others missing or dead after the last Crisis, other super heroes try to step in to take their place. Black Adam seems to have gone a little police state nutty, Booster Gold is trying to capitalize and Lex Luther is trying to repair his always tarnished image while still screwing people over... and a few other very interesting story lines going on at the same time. The art is good and the action will keep you interested. I don't know that I would recommend reading this without first reading at least Infinite Crisis. But to fully follow this I'd say Identity Crisis, Crisis on Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis are a must. There are a bunch of side stories that go along with these but they are not completely necessary. Aside from that, this is a great story worth trying out.

The B-grade superheroes get the A-grade treatment

Suprisingly good

I don't read DC Comics that much to understand what is going on, who is who and stuffs. The opening of 52 confused me a bit but then the story just going, and it's good. Now I want more of 52!!

Confusing at first but rewarding in the end

When I first started reading this book I was in a state of confusion. All the characters and names thrown at me were bewildering. I suppose long time fans of DC could make sense of what was going on . I was seriously wondering if I had made a huge mistake buying all four books at once.
The more I read the more things started to fall into place and the more I began to enjoy the book. By the end I couldnt wait to start book 2. The artwork is very good and the discussions between each week a much better than average read.
Summary: A hard book for non DC fans at first but ending up a very enjoyable read. great artwork and paper.

DC's 52 was highly ambitious, which made me more than a little nervous, since projects as big as these usually fall flat. With the big three missing, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, DC picks up some acilliary characters and kind of turns them into the modern age superheroes. Really DC is trying to kick start some other books. But they do a good job, especially since there is a book a week. Bravo gentlemen.

The first volume of 52 is a must have

"52" Fans Will Enjoy This Collected Edition 2007-12-11
The collected editions of "52" didn't start appearing until the series had reached its climax. These new editions are well worth the wait: They include additional material such as essays and sketches by all of the key talent in the series. The press picked up on the lesbian "Batwoman" who makes her debut here, but she's by far the least interesting part of this series. "52" is a step above the previous "Infinite Crisis" event that preceded it, and about 52 times better than the "Countdown" disasterpiece.

Best comic ever 2007-11-18
omg i have never had so much fun reading a comic book. i picked it up not knowing anything about it and after reading the first two pages i was hooked. it a fast paced action packed read that will leave you on the edge of you seat. i can't wait for #4 to come out.

Way better then the actual event. 2007-09-27
I've been VERY critical of the Infinite Crisis. Rightfully so; it kinda sucked. 52, however, makes up for a lot of DC's mistakes. 52 is nail-bitting! The story for Vol. 1 is really a few different stories: Elongated Man still realing from the events of Identity Crisis, Adam Strange, Animal Man and Starfire stranded on an alien world, the Question and Montoya taking on Intergang, what's looking like a very interesting story about Black Adam and Lex giving everyday people powers after he is cleared from wrong doing as Alex's body has been found aquiting him of guilt for recent events.

I have not read past Vol.1, but so far, so good. Although a very strong story, some of the artwork is not the best, although, it is still pretty good; just not fantastic. That being said, I do recommend this to the DC disillusioned or anyone who likes a good super-hero story.

52, Vol. 1 and 2 2007-09-16
For fans of the DC universe this is an awesome collection. Collecting the first titles in the 52 comic series in a trade paperback collection. If you're like me and love comics but don't have time to hunt them down each week this is the way to go. The story line is that for 1 year Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have gone missing/walkabout to rediscover themselves and see what life holds for them outside of being a super hero. In the meantime all the other DC heroes are holding the line against the forces of evil. This collection also helps to tie together some loose ends that have come up since the last Crisis. Things like what has happened to the Elongated Man since the death of his wife. Whats going on with Black Adam and his rise to power in the middle east. What about the missing heroes from the war in space. Things like that. A great collection and after each chapter is a word from the creators. Well worth the price.
