The worst book about singing out there
2007-08-21
I have read so many books about singing, you would think I'm crazy.
This was the worst one, because it doesn't tell you anything. It just keeps saying how wonderfull her method is, so if you want come fly over please!
A Must Read For All Singers!

While I was in Japan I read Diana Yampolsky's postings on the Internet on her vocal techniques, which first inspired me to explore her method and her purchase her book. Her clear, straightforward explanations made it easy for me to try them out and hear and feel an immediate improvement in my singing. Because I felt that direct instruction would be necessary to fully appreciate her method, I decided to fly to Toronto to study with her. After only ten hours of training I have seen drastic improvement, and Diana has definitely made another believer out of me!
A Vocal Revelation!!

I have to disagree with "dhana" and a "reader from Tacoma Park" below. (You never know, maybe they are also authors with their own books on the topic of singing?) I found this book to be extremely useful. What really helped me was the way that it got me to look at both my voice and the act of singing in a completely different light. The author does mention that it is probably impossible for any book to adequately take the place of a live vocal instructor who can precisely target and correct a student's mistakes and technical imperfections in an interactive fashion. Upon further thought, this did make sense and it did encourage me to take vocal lessons (unfortunately with an instructor other than Diana Yampolsky due to my location). However, the book did contain quite a bit of technical and philosophical information that I was able to put to good use right after reading it. In my opinion, `Vocal Science - Flight to the Universe' is a must for any singer who wants to find their "true voice".

What do you expect?
2002-08-10
Your satisfaction will depend entirely on your expectations. If you are looking for an instructional, - or a "how-to" book to achieve a new method of singing. This book is NOT it. If you just want to read about the author's life experiences in regard to her career in music, her personal journeys, her discovery of a new vocal technique and how she came to have a school of music - read on. The entire book digresses from myths about singing, to helpful herbs, to singing with emotion for self-expression.....and is an overall transcript of her personal perspectives. Humor is attempted throughout, compounding an already confusing and nebulous script. Although not without some validity - this book does not provide any actual instruction to incorporate into your daily practice to achieve the results she advertises.

In Vocal Science - Flight to the Universe, Diana Yampolsky defines the principles that will allow you to reach your full potential as a singer and performer and illustrates them with numerous examples culled from her years as a Vocal Coach/Consultant-Producer/Health Practitioner. Contrary to popular belief, learning to sing does not take years of education, nor does it solely involve the singing of scales over and over again. An incredible combination of the technical aspects of singing, psychology, health and herbal information, Vocal Science - Flight to the Universe will not only improve your understanding of singing but will also improve every aspect of your life.
Vocal Science is a science of the new millennium; a sign of encouragement of more musical education, elimination of ignorance and illiteracy of artists involved in the music industry; a sign of prosperity forward, i.e. unlimited success.
The book starts out with the humorous and sarcastic chapter. How Not to Become a Singer (Work Harder at Doing It). It then goes on to explain the proper vocal techniques, psychological aspects of spiritual elements that in combination will allow you to sing and perform at "more than 100% capacity." After reading Vocal Science - Flight to the Universe, you will have a different understanding of yourself and your voice as a tool for expressing your unique self. Furthermore, you will better understand how to care for and protect your voice, as well as how to express yourself more clearly and dynamically. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned pro, this book offers information that will make the act of singing more fulfilling creatively, spiritually and financially. With Vocal Science - Flight to the Universe, you are guaranteed to be taken on board for a safe and pleasant flight where the sky is the limit!

since i read the title, i badly wanted to get this book. but, once i got it, it was total disappointment. it looks like the marketing brochure. every other page has a full page advertisement sort of figures, for example, it shows a singer in a very bad shape before doing vocal science and then it shows the same singer after using the technique, the former looks delapidated, the latter looks on the top of the world. i asked my library to buy this book and waited for two months. when they told me that my book had arrived, i rushed to the library. they said that since the book wasnt numbered i could check it for a while. i just opened it for 5 minutes and then returned it back never to issue it again.......
The best book about singing I have ever read!

When I first picked up the Vocal Science: Flight to the Universe book, I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. I was absolutely amazed that this book was contradicting everything I had ever been taught in the past about vocal performance. I wasn't even sure I could believe everything it said until I completed the vocal science course and discovered that all the techniques in the book actually worked! Everything from the facial muscle techniques to holding your stomach in actually made my voice feel stronger and allowed me to project my words more clearly. This book definitely provides a great starting point to anyone who wants to learn how to sing to their full extent. It's also quite funny and entertaining throughout!
