In "Healing Your Family Tree," Beverly Hubble Tauke prescribes eight transforming habits to help people overcome a painful past and create a legacy of future joy. Tauke bases her core transforming habit on the biblical principle of generational sin. Speaking of Nehemiah 9, she states, "Nehemiah demonstrated how to take a `moral inventory' not just of personal life, but of family history." She also roots her model in Bowenian family systems therapy which emphasizes the interconnection of all family members in a web of mutual influence.

Building from these two central perspectives, Tauke offers eight practical transforming habits: explore and resolve the wounds from your family history, warm your heart through building nurturing relationships, find reasons to celebrate even in your grief, define your role in your extended and nuclear family, minimize the family tyrant's power over you, seek one-to-one relationships with each member of your family, embrace a vibrant connection with God, and exercise judicious generosity. She powerfully illustrates the outworking of these habits through biblical history, modern examples, and illustrative vignettes from her therapeutic practice.
