Editorial Review
Sent to Carthak as part of the Tortallan peace delegation, Daine finds herself in the middle of a sticky political situation. She doesn't like the Carthaki practice of keeping slaves, but it's not her place to say anything -- she's just there to heal the emperor's birds. It's extremely frustrating! What's more, her power has grown in a mysterious way.

As the peace talks stall, Daine puzzles over Carthak's two-faced Emperor Ozorne. How can he be so caring with his birds and so cruel to his people? Daine is sure he's planning something. Daine must fight the powerful Emperor Mage, knowing that the safety and peace of the realm depend on stopping Ozorne's power-hungry schemes.

Emperor Mage (Immortals) 2007-01-03
I purchased the Immortals series for my granddaughter, who is 12 years old. She read all the books within a period of a week and has subsequently found other titles by Tamora Pierce in her township library. She has developed into quite a Tamora Pierce fan.

A Darkness Unravels 2006-01-04
Daine and a group of Tortall ambassadors go to Cathak in an attempt to make peace with the Emperor. Daine soon makes friends with the crown prince. However, when she is given a strange power and even stranger things begin to unroll, Daine is swept into it all.
Wonderful book, I couldn't put it down. Pierce carried me through a thrilling place. If you love fantasy, adventure and animals, like me, then you absolutely will love this book. However, this book should be read by young adults and adults. If you're not one of these then the book maybe a little bit too hard for you to follow. But Pierce gives such detail that it feels like you're really inside the book. It is a perfect squeal to Wild Magic and Wolf Speaker.

Is there trouble ahead ? 2005-09-26
"Emperor Mage" is the third book in Tamora Pierce's "The Immortals" quartet. If you haven't read the previous books in the series, please do so because then you will enjoy this one more. I want to point out, too, that some characters in Pierce's "Song of the Lioness" quartet appear here too, so if you have read it you will appreciate this book even more. Despite that, and as I already said in a previous review regarding "The immortals", this new series can also be read on its own.

In "Emperor Mage", Daine has to accompany a delegation from Tortall to Carthak, a country that is threatening with war, and that might have been responsible for the troubles that Daine had to face in "Wolf-speaker". The delegation includes Alanna (the king's champion), Duke Gareth, and Daine's teacher Numair. As a gesture of peace, Daine is supposed to heal the emperor's cherished birds. But is that all he wants from her?. And why does her patron god give her scary new powers?. Is the badger trying to warn her that trouble is ahead?.

The answer to those and many more questions, can be found in this book. Daine will take her young dragon Kitten with her to Carthak, and he will amuse you with his antics. Daine will also find another good companion in the form of a small monkey she rescues from being eaten, and names Zek. We will also have the pleasure of meeting again some of the immortals that appeared in the previous books, and will learn what happens when gods get really, really mad.

On the whole, I highly recommend "Emperor Mage" as a good addition to "The Immortals" series. I believe that readers older than 10 will love his book, and that even some parents will enjoy reading it with them. Enjoy it!

!!!!!SPOILER WARNING SPOILER WARNING!!!!! 2005-08-26
Actually, K. Dufresne, you are right. Daine eventually marries him and has a daughter who also posseses Wild Magic. (I sadly learned this before I finished the series... I read Tricksters Choice too early.)

Great book! 2005-07-11
Once again, things wrapped up almost a little too neatly. The bad were sufficiently punished and the good triumphed without any major losses. But I didn't expect anything else, so it was nice to have a safe and comfortable, relaxing read.

This Book Rocked 2008-05-07
I loved this book. I am hoping for a realtionship between Daine and the Numair. I loved the story line and the plot was quite interesting. I cant wait to read the fourth of this series.

Great! 2008-01-17
This book is no disappointment for anyone who likes Tamora Pierce's Tortall books. A great read. Recommended for anyone looking for adventure. This book, of course, is a sequel, and is well worth reading. Tamora Pierce does not disappoint with her intriguing plot, life-like characters, thrilling adventures. Brilliant cover art for this edition. As usual a wonderful installment in her Tortall adventures.

Ozorne's making trouble! 2007-03-31
Daine and her teacher Numair Salamin are sent to Carthak as part of the peace legion. But although Ozorne says that he didn't attack Tortall Daine can tell that he's up to something. She can feel it.

In this book Daine is captured by...sorry I won't tell you. Numair tries to save her and...another thing I won't say. Ozorne is growing powerful and Daine see's her power growing in strange ways. Are these powers good or bad?

While Daine is here she meets Kaddar the prince of Carthak and maybe, just maybe they can do something to stop the war and to defeat Ozorne...

Please read this book. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It has magic, fantasy, action, adventure and a touch of romance.

Dinos bent on Destruction 2007-02-20
