Editorial Review
Our fellow Americans,

It is our pleasure, our honor, our duty as citizens to present to you Duck for president in 2008. Here is a duck who began in a humble pond, who worked his way up to farmer, to governor, and now perhaps the highest office in the land.

Some say if he walks like a duck and talks like a duck, he is a duck.

We say if he walks like a duck and talks like a duck, he will be the next president of the United States of America.

Thank you for your vote.

I'd vote for him 2008-09-25
Considering the present elections, I felt this was an appropriate book to pick instead of the political madness.

When Duck sees unfairness on the farm, he decides to change things (always with the hope of making things easier for himself). He runs for farmer (this is a democratic barnyard) and this political career shoots off from there.

The story runs on the same joke of ballots, but it's all funny and reminiscent of the Florida incident. But what really makes this a charmer is the nonchalant way everything plays out and the universal acceptance that animals can run for office and still be second-class barn yard animals.

Adults will love reading this to the little ones! 2008-08-08
Cronin books always tickle my funnybone, so it's fun to read them to the little kids, especially since we will read them 1000 times over the next few years!

"WITH A QUACK QUACK HERE, AND A QUACK QUACK THERE." 2008-01-21
If you're having trouble choosing a candidate in this election year, Duck's your man or more properly "your duck." "Duck is Great for 2008!"

In this delightful children's story our hero may be a winner but he was once a very dissatisfied duck. He lived on a farm with many other animals and Farmer Brown. Each of the animals had a chore, and Duck thought farm work was terribly hard. So, he decided that they didn't have to do what Farmer Brown told them to do and he had an election to prove it. Sure enough, Duck beat out Farmer Brown!

Well, it didn't take Duck long to discover that running a farm was actually harder work than doing chores. So, he decided to move on - he'd run for governor. You guessed it, this bird is on a winning streak! As it turned out, Duck soon discovered that running a state was no fun at all. What will he do about that?

Doreen Cronin's clever narrative sings with rhymes, "A fresh bill on Capitol Hill," while Caldecott honoree Betsy Lewin's whimsical illustrations will bring smiles.

Elections explained in fun way 2007-09-30
I loved this book. Ordered it for a school project for young children; then ordered more for others. I liked that it includes that the farm animals have to be registered to vote, they have to meet criteria, they fight for their rights. Includes a lot of info in a fun way.

A fun look at the electorial process. 2007-06-05
I liked Click, Clack, Moo and Giggle, Giggle, Quack. This one hasn't really grown on me.

It starts with duck not liking his chores of mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, and grinding coffee. He decides Farmer Brown is wrong and holds an election. He wins and learns running a farm is tough. Time to be Governor! He wins and learns it's hard work. Time to be President! Which he wins and learns its the toughest job of all. Time to retire and right the autobiography.

There are humor spots as this is an attempt to make fun of the electoral process. It's done in a good way and it makes references to past Presidents. I particularly liked the JFK pose.

Overall it's a good book. My daughter likes it and that's what counts!

Duck For President 2007-02-21
This is a fun and enjoyable children's book. The book's humor makes it interesting and funny. Duck for President can teach about how fun the electoral process can be.
It is an educational storybook for kids. It includes duck campaigning, winning over voters, and being elected. The book is silly because it is so unreal. A duck on a farm becomes the president of the United States of America. Duck for President teaches you to never give up and to follow your dreams. Duck made a good campaign, studied his opponent, and came away with the win.
This is a fun and enjoyable book that teaches you a lot about the electoral process. It is very silly and teaches you a lesson about how to follow your dreams. It will be a quick read that could give you some laughs.

WELL DONE, THOUGHTFUL AND JUST FUNNY. 2006-11-21
I enjoyed reading this one. I am not at all sure which president the author is trying to take a shot at. When I discussed it with friends, half said Bush, half said Clinton. I suspect it goes all of the way back to Grant. Be-that-as-it-may, this is a funny work. I have not read other books by this author, so really cannot make a comparison with his other works, which would be silly to do any way as each work should more or less stand on it's own merits. This is a story of a duck who is tired of working on the farm and goes into politics. I do agree with some of the reviewers in that perhaps a child should be a bit older to really appreicate this work. I do think this is a fun book for adults, and a pleasure to read with children once they understand what is going on. The story is a good concept.
